Ex-FBI Chief On Clinton's Scandals (On 60 Minutes tonight)

CBS) Elevated to the post of FBI director by President Clinton in 1993, Louis Freeh now speaks publicly about his terrible relationship with the president. “We were preoccupied in eight years with multiple investigations,” Freeh tells 60 Minutes correspondent Mike Wallace this Sunday, Oct. 9, at 7 PM ET/PT.

In his upcoming book, My FBI, Freeh writes, “The problem was with Bill Clinton — the scandals and the rumored scandals, the incubating ones and the dying ones never ended. Whatever moral compass the president was consulting was leading him in the wrong direction. His closets were full of skeletons just waiting to burst out.” The scandals Freeh mentions include Whitewater, Monica Lewinsky, Paula Jones and Gennifer Flowers.

The director sought to distance himself from Clinton because of Whitewater, refusing a White House pass that would have enabled him to enter the building without signing in. This irked Clinton. “I wanted all my visits to be official,” says Freeh. “When I sent the pass back with a note, I had no idea it would antagonize the president.” Freeh says the most delicate and unsavory of the investigations was the Lewinsky affair, when the FBI needed to obtain a blood sample from the president to match the DNA on the infamous blue dress. “But we did it … very carefully, very confidentially,” Freeh says. During a scheduled dinner, the president excused himself to go to the bathroom. Instead of the restroom, he entered another room where FBI medical technicians were waiting to take a blood sample.

Aside from scandals and investigations, Freeh says Clinton let down the American people and the families of victims of the 1996 Khobar Towers terror attack in Saudi Arabia. After promising to bring to justice those responsible for the bombing that killed 19 and injured hundreds, Freeh says Clinton refused to personally ask Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah to allow the FBI to question bombing suspects the kingdom had in custody — the only way the bureau could secure the interviews, according to Freeh. Freeh writes in the book, “Bill Clinton raised the subject only to tell the crown prince that he understood the Saudis’ reluctance to cooperate and then he hit Abdullah up for a contribution to the Clinton Presidential Library.”

Freeh also says he was determined to stay on as FBI director until President Clinton left office so that Clinton could not appoint his successor. “I was concerned about who he would put in there as FBI director because he had expressed antipathy for the FBI, for the director,” he says. “I was going to stay there and make sure he couldn’t replace me.”

Well CBS already caved in and will allow Sandy Burglar to read a statement denying Freeh's allegations on the show.

Good question, if Freeh has proof, it has possibilities.

no legs, because Freeh has no political support. the Dems and the Clinton machine are moving in to trash him. and do you think there is anyone in the Bush administration who will support him? not a chance. Freeh is a man without a country, absent some hard blockbuster evidence.

Showing just what denial the Clinton folks are in - using Sandy Burglar as their spokesman. I still go with George Will's observation - that Clinton was not the worst President we have had - but the worst man who has ever been President.

I don't really have much of a problem with that. If Willard want too put a known thief up in front of America....GOOD.
As for reading a statement...well that's part of the game.

Nothing we didn't know before.
But least Freeh was never part of that sad Greek chorus that--after the "Ah did not have sex with . . that woman" speech--nodded their heads sagely on camera and said,
"We believe him."

And I'm sure Sandy Burglar, with his stellar moral authority, will convince everyone to believe the IMPOTUS over Freeh.

A comic writer couldn't come up with anything funnier than this. Just goes to show how out of touch Clinton is. He really does have a terminal case of megalomania.

I hope someone remembers to ask Freeh what he thinks about Clinton's relationship with George I.

I agree with your statement, but I am suspicious of Freeh.

Ok so Clinton has all these Skeletons. I am sure most if not all are true. No doubt about that. Although it leads me to this question. If he knew all this crap was going down, and nothing could be done about it. Then why did he not step down from his position?

Are we going to learn anything new from Louis Freeh that we haven't heard about listening to Rush Limbaugh for the last 12 years?

I love how Burglar is the "best" they could come up with for spin control purposes. If he's their only hope, bubba is goin' doooownnnnnnnnn! I'm surprised they haven't shunned Burglar and kept him completely out of the rat picture. I wonder what Freeh could have done by blowing the whistle on clinton back then. In the 90s, there were hardcore rats who would have shut Freeh down and taken him out. Back during the clinton ROT (reign of terror), Freeh really didn't have anywhere to turn. As we've learned only recently, there are thousands of rats at the top in both the FBI and the CIA.

Will they have free on 1000 times like they did Richard Clarke? I'd also like to see a side-by-side analysis of the interviews, to see who gets the easy treatment and who gets the hardball questions.

The scandal over the bj amounts to chump change when compared to the Red Chinese Loral Space kickback deal.

Fifteen minutes of fame or has legs ? Consider this if just one statement is true all denials were just busted. One of Clinton's main lines of defense for all scandals was the White House Log Book always showing very few visits by anyone who was suspect. Freeh states that he was offered a pass which would not require him to sign in.How many other passes like this were issued. Let's see one to Monika, One to each Chinese donor,One was probably offered to Kathleen Willey,Gennifer Flowers,Paula Jones. All Playboy playmates,Every Hooter's girl in the country. And God knows who else.I almost forgot. One must have been given to whoever came after Vince Foster's body. Now who are you going to believe former FBI Director Louis Freeh or Recently Convicted Sandy "Pants" Burglar. The Clinton attack dogs will be out in full force on this one.

Sure. Why NOT let Clinton pick your replacement? Why wouldn't you want Clinton to control the FBI?
