FOR CALIFORNIANS WEARY of voting, it is tempting simply to sit this special election out. Moreover, this election feels especially unnecessary; each of the issues raised in these eight ballot measures should have been taken up by the Legislature, and none is of such dire urgency that it couldn't have waited until next year's regularly scheduled statewide election.
It was tempting for this editorial page, too, to ignore this special election.
The Schwarzenegger administration itself is the product of a special recall election that was intended to send an outsider to fix Sacramento. Alas, much like its opponents, the governor's political team has concluded that it stands to benefit more from running an expensive permanent campaign than from focusing on governing.

The L.A Times liberals are whining thumbsuckers upset at another off-year special election. They slam Arnold for resorting to the ballot box, conveniently overlooking the simple fact the State Legislature blocked all reforms. The Year Of Reform may or may not come to pass but its here and not even a hostile Times can afford to ignore it. Beginning with Prop. 73 today, look for them to editorialize against all the reforms on the ballot - 73 to 77. Yes, here we go again and as Ronald Reagan would be fond of observing, after two years, the Times liberals have forgotten everything and learned nothing.

The Schwarzenegger administration ... has concluded that it stands to benefit more from running an expensive permanent campaign than from focusing on governing. The Times is confused (as usual). They're actually describing the (impeached) Clinton administration.

They didn't mind Clinton politicking. But it angers them if a Republican is so low gasp!> as to actually mingle among the unwashed sheeple asking for their vote.

How is Arnold an outsider? Wasn't he a resident of California and a United States citizen prior to the recall? These libs are picking on an immigrant!

I marvel they still hate him despite his mostly liberal social policies. In every other way, Arnold is a true-blue RINO but the Times can't be reconciled to him because he committed the unpardonable sin of ousting a Democrat from the Governorship in 2003.
