Former CBS anchorman Walter Cronkite, in an appearance on CNN's "Larry King Live," said Americans are too dumb to vote for the right candidates.
"We're an ignorant nation right now," Cronkite said. "I don't think we're bright enough to do the job that would preserve our democracy, our republic. I think we're in serious danger."
Cronkite proposed that, in the future, all ballots be considered "provisional" until screened and approved by the Federal Elections Commission. To aid the process, future ballots would also require additional information on the voter's gender, ethnic background and income.
"Only ballots by rich, white men would be counted for Republicans," said Cronkite. "It doesn't make any sense for women, minorities or lower-income people to vote this way. Those who do are obviously too dumb to vote and their ballots shouldn't be counted."

Had to read a good bit of the source to be sure it was satirical. Trouble is, a lot of it isn't that far off what I can picture Cronkite saying just that.

Really .. well the statement he made about American's being too dumb to vote is real - Rush had audio of it.
Maybe this: "Only ballots by rich, white men would be counted for Republicans," said Cronkite. "It doesn't make any sense for women, minorities or lower-income people to vote this way. Those who do are obviously too dumb to vote and their ballots shouldn't be counted."
But Cronkite is such an arrogant a$$, I wouldn't be surprised if he said it.
I don't now how the man can live with himself knowing he caused 48,000 more deaths in Vietnam.

It's not that far off the mark. I saw some of
that interview, and it's pretty much what he
said, in the quote about only white males voting
Republican, and nobody elses votes should be
counted as a GOP vote.

Walter, what we need is a poll tax. That will straighten things out.

He does not think that way. Like most liberals he thinks he saved hundreds of thousands of poor Vietnamese we would have killed and thousands more Americans he believed would die if we had stayed any longer.
The liberal view is a narrow, dangerous, self serving view that explains the world only as they see it.

You are so correct. I agree Cronkite does not believe he did anything wrong. That's why they're so dangerous.
