The intruder, who tied up a maid during the two hour incident, made his escape before police arrived. The maid didn't get a panic room?

I guess when you work in a castle you can be considered expendable.
Who would live in a castle without having some kind of armed security?

The maid didn't get a panic room? Maybe she was expected to dump the boiling oil over the wall.

I guess the maid outside the panic room was part of her defense.
Sort of like a Russian princess throwing a peasant girl off the sled, to the pursuing wolves.
