WASHINGTON -- The prosecutor in the CIA leak case is exploring a range of possible crimes, lawyers in the case say, suggesting that the investigation has moved well beyond its initial focus on whether anyone in the Bush administration illegally disclosed the identity of a CIA operative. In recent days, the prosecutor, Patrick J. Fitzgerald, has accelerated the pace of his inquiry in an apparent effort to conclude the case before the grand jury's term expires on Oct. 28. He has indicated to several lawyers that he might be preparing to bring charges.
Fitzgerald has asked to meet Tuesday with Judith Miller, a reporter for The New York Times who, after spending 85 days in jail, testified last week to the grand jury about her conversations with I. Lewis Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff.

I don't know why the sub-headline reads "Focus may shift from White House", but the article reads as if Fitzgerald's focus remains Livvy and Rove.
But one thing is clear. David Johnson a New York Times reporter, writes about the contents of the notes Judith Miller just found and turned over to Fitzgerald. Johnson couldn't have known about the notes' contents unless Miller told him, and wanted this information "out there"
'Under the law, any government official or private citizen who transferred classified information could potentially be charged with a felony.'
Sandy Burglar comes to mind.....
Classified information?
the "classified infomation" being the identity of Valerie Plame, my guess.
I did not notice the sub-headline until you mentioned it "Focus may shift from White House", but that is very interesting.
So is this line: "Under the law, any government official or private citizen who transferred classified information could potentially be charged with a felony."
Private citizen = reporters? Classified info = Wilson yapping about his wife to reporters?
Charges might be lying to a g-man (FBI) or conspiracy. That's what they nailed Martha with
Like the AP/UPI, the NYT sells their stories.
The law that "Joe Isuzu" Wilson claimed was broken says that you have to learn about a person's covert status from classified sources/material with which you have been entrusted. That is, you have a clearance and you saw it at work.
A reporter who figures it out from unclassified sources COULD NOT be prosecuted. However, that is exactly what 99% of the press wants to happen here.
So the reporters want to ignore the law as long as we can put Rove in jail. I say "Fine" as long as we can then put reporters in jail using the same rule. Rove will have tons of company.
"Wilson yapping about his wife to reporters?"
Bingo
OK, I have to say it again, I am fascinated about that sub-headline: "Focus may shift from White House"
Is the NY Times easing us into the true story?
If nothing else, it's good that she's not a rogue at the agency sending out dipsticks like Joe running her own diplomatic games.
BTW, her post partum depression was not caused by pregnancy. It was caused by the realization that people will know she had sex with that dweeb.
Can't wait till Oct. 28, 2005 bump!!!
ping.
Sure seems that way. Methinks this 'set up' of Rove is not going to turn out the way the MSM wanted. Hehehehe....
FYI. Looks like all roads may lead away from the WH, as suspected. Hehehehe...
I wouldn't assume anything so pleasant as The NYT easing us into anything. And who writes the headlines and sub-titles anyway? Chances are it's some formerly ink-stained schmuck on a computer, just trying to fit words into spaces. And in this case, did the headline come from the NYT or from the NewsObserver...I don't know.
Hey Doc (good morning), don't slander Isuzu...
duh....finally thought to look this up in today's NYT. Their headline is :
"Prosecutor in Leak Case Is Exploring Range of Crimes"
with no sub-headlines.
