I keep seeing this line, show of hands please, how many people discuss your position on abortion with associates or coworkers?

You don't?

I guess the Germans in Hitler's time didn't discuss the death camps with their associates or corworders either. But that was only 6 million slaughtered and the penalty for such discussion may have been a visit from the Gestapo. They had an excuse.

I not only discuss it, but I wear my pro-life pin on my ID lanyard. There's no question what my position on this subject is.

You do not have to discuss Abortion to know how someone feels about it, GWB says he knows her heart and that says it right there. Most of the people you talk with on a regular basis are not bringing the subject up obsessively, but knowing their feelings on other subjects and the way they live their lives gives you a clue. I am prolife, but I do not have to beat it to death to people for them to know how I feel. It can be very subtle things you say and do that tell people a lot about you. I do not like guns, but I am Pro second Amendment and people do not have to guess how I feel they know how I feel by the little subtleties.

Perhaps Miers will distinguish herself by asserting that the planet is only a mere 6,000 years old and also to percisely pinpoint the location of the Garden of Eden. I want a better
explaination of Noah and the Flood as well.

Judging from the headline, I thought it would say:

Bork: Porked 'er.

If you are going to use Bork as the yardstick by which all nominees are to be measured in terms of intellect, and Constitutional expertize, then all nominees are going to come up short. If you doubt me, just ask Mr. Bork.

Maybe. But how many do you think he would call "a disaster on every level"? Hmmmm?

If you think only people from within the justice system (lawyers and judges) are the only one's who can truly interpret the Constitution -

Then you don't have a clue as to the brilliance of our Founding Fathers - They did not create a document from which only a select few could understand it!

The idea that you think only "certain" people are qualified goes against every concept our Founding Fathers put forth. And let it be noted that Bork was all for SDO, Souter and Kennedy as they were all "truly" qualified.

Go read Thomas Sowell on Mires (a man who's brain power is larger then all the members of Congress combined).

Bork: "as anyone can tell-- she has no experience with constitutional law whatever."

She's Bush's lawyer genius. She's been there and gone over tons of stuff with him and others in the WH. Including the campaign finance reform bill. He knows what she thinks and Bush approves.

Bork: "a disaster on every level."

That would have been the case if you had made it on the court, because you advocate violating the Constitution as you see fit. Not only that, you make things up and pull justificaitons out of thin air.

Bork is right. If Miers had been such a modest thoughtful person, she would have considered the fallout and declined, effectively forcing Bush to make a more competent choice.

Congress, including its many nonlawyers, have ignored the Constitution far more than the Court. If you want to get lawyers out of government, stop electing them to Congress. The Supreme Court is not in the business of interpreting LAW. The only way to reverse what has been done is with strong legal minds like Scalia, Roberts, and Thomas to use superior reasoning to change the weight of legal opinion through their published decisions.

"I don't think Bork supported Ginsberg

Yes he did. He may have later changed his story. I just remembered he also mentioned at the same time that she was one of his best students."

I think you are confused. AFAIK Bork has been consistent in his criticism of RBG.

Also, he never taught her. He taught at Yale. She went to Harvard and Columbia.

If she blows it in the hearings, she should be voted down. But if she carries herself well... then she should and probably will be confirmed.

Lots of good conservatives have alarm bells ringing about this woman. I don't know why, but I just don't. My spidey-sense, a gut hunch, about people has served me well, and I'm usually right. I have a hunch that she might just be exactly the right voice on the court, right now.

Ramius, I agree with you. Give the woman a hearing. She will either show the Senate that she can hold her own or she won't. If she doesn't then she will not be confirmed and we will move on.

I've trusted GW as Governor and President. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one too. He knows her, I don't.

Thank you for a good post.

Jen

Miers is a better constitutional scholar than Bork. She can read and understanad the second amendment. Bork cannot even do that simple task.

Maybe the libs will show us just how intolerant they really are.

I've discussed my views on abortion with co-workers before. In fact, the very first time I ever discussed it was at my very first job within a couple of weeks after starting. I remember the guy that brought it up very clearly, because he was so flamboyantly gay I thought the walls were gonna burst into flames. Anyhow, he was staunchly pro-life which was a bit of a shock to me..

I'm an elitist because I want someone with a proven record of constitutional competence. That can include Harvard (depending on what the student does afterwards), but it can also include Gonzaga Law School, so long as afterwards the candidate actually does something - file briefs, writes articles, something - to demonstrate that he or she has done some deep and sustained thinking about American history and out constitution, and has come up with basically right answers.

Harriet worked on the Texas lottary commission, and she contributed to Meal-on-Wheels.
