You mean the Goebellsian lie painting her as an admirer of Burgers jurisprudence when she in fact made clear she only admired his administrative skills? :-}

It doesn't take a genius to know you don't argue constitutional theory with a Senate that outnumbers your side and disagrees with you....and there's no requirement that you open your mouth to argue.

He shot himself in the foot. All that fire, all that fame, coining a new term "to bork"...but the bottom line

He shot himself in the foot.

So, yep -- his is the advice I want to take.

Miers may be no Scalia, Thomas or Roberts, but she clearly IS a threat to the dems' goals.

My recollection is that Bork did not even remember either Mr. "Clinton" or Miss Rodham from his constitutional law class. They were so mediocre that they left no impression on Bork.

Your post regarding Hamilton says nothing with regard to those outside of the Legal profession as a way of life - It only says that those put within the position of judges be "willing" to have long/hard hours in study prior to their decisions (based off the established law).

Again, to assume only those in the Legal profession are capable of understanding of the Constitution is ridiculous.

The brilliance of our Founding Fathers was in that they created a document and system which goes exactly against that theory.

Miers voted for Reagan and Bush 41?

Jim_Curtis has just had his entire raison d'etre for posting evaporate into thin air.

What I find so incredible is that in the face of so many other non-conservative moves made by Mr. Bush , this one has gotten the most wailing in moaning. Wierd.

Many social/fiscal conservatives "put up" with fiscal liberal policies because they believed a promise of judicial restraint for SCOTUS. Now they are confounded and confused by a nomination that is "stealth."

The resulting outpouring is quite understandable, and was predictable.

Thanks for your post. Whatever the Founding Fathers wanted, they did NOT want unqualified nominees for the judicial bench, nor did they want a compliant, uninformed electorate. The Founding Fathers never adopted the phoney "anti-elitist," pseudo-populist cant spouted by the Miers supporters here.

"Tonight on MSNBC's "The Situation with Tucker Carlson," former judge and Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork tells Tucker Carlson the Harriet Miers' nomination is "a disaster on every level," that Miers has "no experience with constitutional law whatever" and that the nomination is a "slap in the face" to conservatives."

Amen. I want to here some of the thought leaders of this forum rationalize the Miers nomination. We've heard:

* Trust Bush.
* Miers is a Christian.
* Fill in other here please.

Miers is a disaster. The nomination is a slap in the face to the middle judiciary with the courage to stand up against liberals. What message does this send the middle?

The nomination is not forward looking. Miers should be a leader and mentor to the future. She only a political crony with a mediocre legal record and relativist positions on a City Council. She didn't even have the courage to make bold stands or create change on a city council. Why put her on a Supreme Court?

Meirs may demurr before this is over and Bush can get back to the business at hand, namely dictating policy instead of reacting to the cries of the crowd; but, I suppose, that is wishful thinking.

No...but Ill tell you guys something that really scares me...

Every time another conservative luminary comes out against this nomination...my lights flicker and dim in my house.

My friend...who lives in Virginia next door to Buchanan...told me that Pat had a large quantity of weird looking electrical machinery delivered early this week.

My God....cant somebody stop this man before its too late!
