WASHINGTON - A federal judge Friday ruled against the Department of Homeland Security in a labor dispute over proposed workplace rules that would reduce the power of labor unions at the department, which has 160,000 employees.
U.S. District Judge Rosemary Collyer said the department's proposal falls short because it leaves open avenues to unilaterally disavow lawful contracts. One provision embraced by DHS, the judge noted, says that homeland security managers may "take whatever other actions may be necessary to carry out the department's mission."

One provision embraced by DHS, the judge noted, says that homeland security managers may "take whatever other actions may be necessary to carry out the department's mission." In other words, to hell with keeping our country safe. Gotta make sure those government employees aren't nudged into doing actual work like people in the real world, where results are expected...

Just what we need. Unions in control of homeland security. It's worse than that. These are Federal unions, in which it's guaranteed that 5% of the workforce does 95% of the work. The rest of the workers can be found at the coffee maker.

It won't be long before some judge agrees with some other lunatic's notion we should unionize the military

There is no reason to believe HS contracts would be written any differently.

One provision embraced by DHS, the judge noted, says that homeland security managers may "take whatever other actions may be necessary to carry out the department's mission." Can't let that happen. I thought this was what we fought for when we created the DHS? Is the judge saying the law doesn't allow this, or that he thinks the law shouldn't allow it even though it does?
