Who responds to cBS polls anyway? I'd say 37% approval is not bad for a bunch of liberals.

From your earlier thread on this poll:

57% Democrats polled, 43% Republicans polled.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1498576/posts

Total Respondents 808

Unweighted: Repub 241, Dem 255, Indep 312

Weighted: Repub 207, Dem 273, Indep 328

The unweighted splits it Repub 49%, Dems 51% (reasonable based on Nov 2004 election split) But the weighted number is Repub 43%, Dems 57% (completely unreasonable).

There is every reason to be pessimistic.

The combination of a housing market ready to take a tumble and households having to cough up an extra $300 to $500 a month this winter to stay warm spells a recession early next year. This Christmas buying season is going to be a bust.

While what you say may be true, I myself am angry about Bush on spending and the borders, but if someone from CBS called to poll me, I'd tell them STRONGLY APPROVE because I'm not about the hand a weapon for the Bush hating media to beat him over the head with. And besides, other than these two issues I think Bush is doing a pretty good job. If he actually follows through on these promises to provide dollar for dollar offsets for the Katrina spending, then I'll be a pretty happy camper again.

Anyway, my guess is most Republicans would answer a poll the same way and not say they disapprove of Bush even if they're disenchanted over a few things right now. Nah, this is just CBS rigging the poll with far too many Democratic respondents again, just like the AP poll with 52% Democratic respondents when the actual voting population is 37% Dem.

They should do a poll to see how many approve of polls.

I'm more pessimistic in posters at FR that are so quick to believe polls at face value, especially a CBS poll.

Did you read the internals on this to see CBS polled 57% Democrats and 43% Republicans?

This poll was conducted among a nationwide random sample of 808 adults, interviewed by telephone October 3-5, 2005. The error due to sampling for results based on the entire sample could be plus or minus four percentage points.

Why should we be surprised at this result? I believe it is reasonably accurate (at least for CBS poll). This poll was taken just as the Meirs screwup was going down. The Dems are always negative and now the conservatives are too. What was Bush thinking?

Add the usual 10% for MSM bias, plus 5% for conservative malcontents just venting over the Miers nomination, and his approval is still well over 50%. Nothing to worry about here.

You left out one
