WASHINGTON, Oct. 5 - National Republicans, who face an uphill battle in their efforts to capture the open United States Senate seat in heavily Democratic Maryland next year, are trying to exploit potential legal problems that Democrats are now suddenly facing in that race.
The Republicans are seizing on a disclosure that two researchers at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee improperly obtained the credit report of Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, a Republican who is considering a bid for the Senate seat.
In recent days, Republicans have sought to put Democrats on the defensive, saying the incident underscores just how concerned the opposition is to the prospect of a Steele candidacy.
"He is very popular and Democrats have been at his heels since he announced his exploratory committee," said Dan Ronayne, a spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
For their part, Democrats describe the incident as an isolated event that Republicans are focusing on for political gain.

The two sides have been battling since late last month, when it was disclosed that the United States attorney's office for the District of Columbia and the F.B.I. were investigating the possibility that Mr. Steele's credit report was obtained illegally by the two Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee staff members.

Chuckaquiddick, for those who don't know, is Hugh Hewitt's term for this, since Chuck Schumer (notice how his name doesn't appear until the last 'graph) heads the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, whose staffers broke the law and illegally obtained Steele's credit report.
Also notice the rather bland headline. The reader is more likely to head for the truss ads than subject him/herself to a snoozer like this.

FYI..the article omits to mention that the DSCC is still paying the legal bills for the two ex-staffers..
Democrats hate black people. The fact that they would go after a black man's credit report just shows how stereotypical and bigoted they are.

What kind of organization would it be if it left its henchmen hanging out to dry? Besides, if they stopped paying the bills, I bet those canaries would suddenly start singing about who put them up to it.
The Slimes sure has this spinning thing down ...
"Democrats hate black people. The fact that they would go after a black man's credit report just shows how stereotypical and bigoted they are."
That is worth repeating, again!

Yeah yeah .. sure sure .. and Watergate was just a third-rate break in .... and those 1000 FBI files just happened to end up in the White House ... and Sandy Burgler was so disorganized that he couldn't find the (shreaded) security files either ... /sarcasm
I'd say taking Steele's social security number to access his personal information is more than defensive. It's criminal.
I truly hope Steele wins this race then has the luxury of looking Chuck in the eye in the Congress.
They New York times should get phone lines installed in their building so they can get information in a more timely manner.
How unlike their Rove, Delay, Libby, wall to wall 24/7 non exposes.
If Steele isn't screaming for charges to be pressed and insisting that SChUMer step down during the investigation, he shouldn't be trusted. He might fear that they have something damaging on him in which case he would be compromised in a higher office.
They certainly hate black Conservatives and Republicans. I left the Democratic party because of the way the Dems and their concubines (MSM) treated Clarence Thomas.
A dillar, a dollar, an all-day-long scowler.
Tell me, what is that Senator's name?
Chuck Schumer, that fumer, with no sense of humor,
He won't accept personal blame.
I only found your post because a reliable source had mentioned the Washington Times' story about the NY Times' story. It wasn't on the front page of the Wash Times either.
