I take "credible threat and threat specific" to mean that they have a pretty good idea WHO ALL to look for, but NYC is so dang HUGE.

The NYPD-especially special units like the Hercules team-is one of the best possible deterrents to terrorism that we have on a municipal level.

However, there's only so much a 40,000 strong police force can do to to thwart these scenarios from unfolding.

In 1997 an Islamic terror cell in my borough was planning on blowing up the Union St. subway station.

The only thing that prevented them from doing so is that one of the original participants got cold feet, and ratted out his accomplices.

Sometimes the only thing you have to rely upon is luck.

As any poor soul without cable TV, like myself, can attest to they are all over prime time tv. The local news girl comes on and says "make a plan" or "look out for suspicious packages on the metro etc. Of course that's followed by a "be accepting to gays" PSA

NYC MAYOR said that they really couldn't say if this THREAT was from a SPECIFIC ethnic group.

The Feds had the threat information for a few days already... Did you notice an increase in noticeable security or in a way that you didn't see but suspected before today?

This threat will keep the subways light for awhile.
