It is hard to really say how grateful I am to this guy, for standing firm against these guys. His antagonizers should be brought up on violations of the Civil Rights Act, and subject to personal lawsuit by Mr Sternberg. We live in such a crazy time, where the defenders of political correctness, are allowed to legally destroy everyone who is in their way, yet the legal system gives us a toy sword to use against them. Hope the guy hangs in there and they get skewered for their actions.

I wanted to ping you to this article to hear your reaction to it. This describes the high tech lynching that even religious scientists(who other wise do excellent scientific work) may face if they step beyond the careful ideology of the Evolutionary Elites.

Note the section on e-mails. Note the under the radar investigation of Sternberg's back-ground. The pressure on him has been so great that he lost his wife to divorce on account of the politics of personal destruction.

Evolutionary Biology stands or falls based on experimental data and conclusions that can be falsified or tested and reliably reproduced. Time and discovery will ultimately direct the fate of evolutionary theory as a viable science. That has never been my real beef with evolutionists.

Having contempt and disrepect of traditional morality, the political gamesmanship of certain of the Evolutionary Upper crust is what I have a beef with. Its the disingenuous mind games that have folks such as the Kansas school board in an uproar. George Orwell's 1984 may have been describing the "newsspeak" of certain of the Scientific Elite. Sternberg was the victim of career killing high tech lynching...perhaps he and Justice Thomas can commiserate here!

Of course you have a Catholic with a Jewish name "Sternberg" so who knows if mis-directed anti-semitism isn't part of the issue here!

When we let government take over "science", it eventually goes downhill.

Sternberg should have did his job and rejected the paper on the grounds that it's not science. He didn't. Instead he allowed the paper to be published as if it actually was science.

Cardinal Archbishop of Vienna Christoph Schonborn says: Any system of thought that denies or seeks to explain away the overwhelming evidence for design in biology is ideology, not science

The good Cardinal should stick to his knitting. Clearly he doesn't understand evolution or science. In the first place, there is no "overwhelming evidence for design in biology." For that to be true, we'd need overwhelming evidence of a designer's intent. In the second, evolution seeks to explain, not explain away as he claims, certain patterns (aka apparent design) seen in biological organisms.

The Smithsonian has a long history of both rank revanchist history predilections and suppression of dissent worthy of Torquemada.

The Smithsonian only recently admitted that their dog (Lilienthal) in the "First Manned Flight" fight was not really first, the Wright brothers were. How reasoned and civilized of them.

Science, and the American Republic, are predicated upon free exchange of ideas. As the Smithsonian leadership, and arguably all too many of their staff, clearly have not accepted this premise, it is time to clean out the revanchists, wanna be Torquemadas, ad nauseam.

Arguably, it is time to put management of the Smithsonian out for bids.

A fellow Catholic is now being persecuted, in no small part, because of his religion.

No one is insisting that the pulpit give equal time for science. And so far, there's no significant movement to force churches to pay taxes on their property and profits even though many are allowing the "intelligent design" sham to turn them into radical anti-science political organizations. All the persecution is coming from the creationists who are using sneaky and dishonest methods to force their beliefs into science studies.

Sternberg's Web Page contains his defence against accusations of improper procedure.

Curiously enough, he rejects both the Darwinist and ID labels. He claims to hold a "non-historicist" Process structuralist position in biology, while the more popular two options rely upon historical claims. If anybody can explain it to me, please do.

I'm not sure what he's doing now, but he has presented a reflection on Darwinism and John Paul II's Theology of the Body at a Catholic conference a few months back. I'm trying to get ahold of an audio copy, as it dovetails with my own interests.

So catholicism placated the aligator by agreeing with it and is now shocked the aligator isn't waiting till last to eat them... When one compromises God's word, one has little excuse for complaint in the matter of living with the consequence of having so done. Just something to ponder..

Since at least the Dark Ages, the priests of science have been both the curators and the arbiters of knowledge, displacing the ancient priests who spoke for the higher beings while soliciting agreement and goodwill.

Today's priesthood is far more imperious, there can be no general disagreement with the core foundation rooted in biology and cosmology.

For fellow or follower, any breach of consensus brings forth a storm of ostracization until the poor soul is silenced and the satisfied sun beams brightly on the benighted penitent.

Having rambled thus, I must confess I find no room for an omnipotent being blessing the universe to keep its balance but I hate zealots in whatever form or costume.

If you're the editor of a scientific journal and you publish crap papers, then you shouldn't be too suprised if your reputation takes a nose dive.
