DENVER (AP) - Focus on the Family founder James Dobson told listeners of his regular radio broadcast that he will never forget it if he is making a mistake in endorsing Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers.
Dobson, founder of the Colorado Springs-based Christian group Focus on the Family, has said he trusted Bush and Miers appeared to be an outstanding choice. Many other conservatives, however, have been wary of her selection.
On his radio broadcast Wednesday, Dobson said he prayed he was not making a mistake.
He said he worried that his position "could do something to hurt the cause of Christ, and I'd rather sacrifice my life than do that."
Dobson, who has worked for more than 30 years to overturn the high court's 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision legalizing abortion, said he believes Miers is against abortion, based on information including talks with her friends.
"If I have made a mistake here, I will never forget it. The blood of those babies who will die will be on my hands to a degree," Dobson said.
Miers is to replace Sandra Day O'Connor, a swing vote on issues including abortion and affirmative action.
Ping...
This story is not in context. He made those statements after defending her took his whole program) as the president's choice.
Takes himself pretty seriously, doesn't he? It's not as if she's running for President ... does he really think his input is going to matter, either way, to a crucial number of Senators?
Does he think if he e-mailed the President and said, "What's up with this, George? Not getting enough sleep lately?" that the President would withdraw the nomination?

In other words, the AP made this look weak. By the way, sorry for the missing (
I saw Dobson say more or less the same thing on FoxNews...
The more I fing out about Miers the more I like her.
Thanks for the info...
Neither. What we have here is the AP putting a spin on Dobson's original position. He's said this all along, that he supports this nominee and since he's human, he is certainly capable of making a mistake.
Yes. I listened to the last 10 minutes of his radio show Wednesday. Appearently even the gossip he has heard about her (from mutual acquaintances) is good.
My reaction was that he said this in response to doubters that he's heard from, including those on this forum...like me.
Dobson is virtually the definition of clout in fundie circles. He has singlehandedly triggered blitzes of public pressure upon various entities. Conservative senators who otherwise might be inclined to nix Ms. Miers because she is allegedly a "lightweight" could see the effects of this in their phone calls, faxes, and letters. He knows this and dreads the possibility that something catastrophic could occur, such as Ms. Miers losing her faith.

You're welcome.
The first time he endorsed her nomination I questioned what about her he liked. And now he is questioning himself about that.
The argument about intellectual ability is even more nonsensical. I feel sorry for anyone who thinks there are these superior minds in high places. It's very easy to be brilliant when you have the word "Judge" in front of your name and you have law clerks to write everything for you.
James Dobson has more influence than you believe.
I appreciate his devotion to his fight against abortion but there are also other issues as well. How does she feel about Campaign financing ?Gay Marriage, parental notification
