MOTHERS AGAINST DRUG DEALERS - Turkish Women in Berlin Go Head to Head with the Junkies
DER SPIEGEL ^ | October 5, 2005 | Daniela Gerson and Ferda Ataman

For decades, the Kreuzberg district in Berlin has been a marketplace for all kinds of drugs and recently it has only gotten worse. But now, a group of Turkish mothers have banded together to take back the street. It's "Mothers Without Borders" against the drug dealers.

People who claim that all Turkish immigrants in Europe are not worth being a member of its society usually know nothing about the realities. Although it is true, that the proportion of Turks among young criminals is terribly high, there is also impressive proof that most Turks integrate themselves quite good into their German communities. Espechially those, who have liberal families and who are already born in Germany, have good chances to establish themselves, if they are willing to do so.

P.S.

The part of Berlin where those mothers are fighting against drug dealers is one of the worst communities in my country. Left unemployed idiots combined with a immigrant rate of maybe 80% make this area a really horrible place to live in. The local gouvernment of Berlin consists of the former communists (SED or PDS) and of a meaningless SPD who placed a ugly and homosexual major.

For our German speakers - his outing on a political convention was: "Ich bin schwul und das ist gut so".

If I think about living there I get anacatharsis and diarrhoea at the same time. :-(

I wouldn't say that Wowereit is ugly. A lot of ladies fancied him before he spilled the beans.

It is stupid thing to create ethnic districts, people living there will always have more difficulties to assimilate. Fortunately there is no such problem in Poland. But when Turkey will join to the EU in the future European countries must do everything to prevent settling them in the large groups. I don’t know how but something must be done.

The way he is acting is ugly. It is known, that the major of Hamburg, Ole von Beust, is also homosexual (or Guido Westerwelle from the FDP i.e.), but his difference to normal men is not his political agenda. He is keeping his exceptional sexuality as a strictly private matter. This is a pleasant way to handle being gay and everybody can live with it.

The migration in Europe will grow. That much is sure. You are absolutely right that quotas for each communtity would be a good thing to avoid ethnic ghettos. Germany made a lot of faults on this sector in the past.

Contrary to what many may think, it is not a problem unique to Muslims. Pacific Islanders (Samoans, Tongans, Niueans, Cook Islanders) suffer the same in Auckland and some have probably heard of Jamaican gangs in Toronto in Canada.

In fact, big government welfare state provisions unwittingly dragged them down and make them confined to welfare dependency.

Your so right about the area. . . back in the late 80's every Saturday night brought the "riot of the week". Why riot? Well, it's Saturday!!

Living in Berlin and Muenchen I find the folks who originally came from Turkey to be nice and friendly. However, I think they have kept to their own community as Germany is not really a land that accepts immigrants.

I am American and although I live and work here, I feel that I will never be accepted as a "true" German. Rather I will just be a "gut Auslander".

I do not have a problem to accept immigrants -no matter where they come from- as long as they are a benefit for our country. Therefore you are more than welcome.

:-)

BTW - Germany with its younger generation in a birthing strike needs immigrants badly to keep the age pattern in a balance. Therefore it is a pure immigration country - no matter what its politicians are saying.
