The Assassins: A Novel
In 2005, the fourth anniversary of the September 11th attacks on America is met with the news that Jihadists have attacked multiple targets in Saudi Arabia, destroying oil pumping equipment, crippling pipelines, and assassinating most of the royal family. In the U.S. gas prices soar to over $6 a gallon along with hyper-inflation across the world financial markets. Non-business travel in the U.S. is limited to no more than 500 miles per week.
The UN Security Council authorizes an international intervention force, and in a closed session of Congress the Assassination Bill is introduced. A Termination or Neutralization Unit is formed with Gen. Peter Newman as its head. He is given authority for up to 100 specialists, which he recruits and trains.
It is discovered Iranians plan to detonate a nuke in Washington. Newman and a team are dispatched and a chase across Europe and international waters ensues. Newman hunts his illusive nemesis to Mexico and Cuba, but the Iranians have a backup plan in place and ready a plane repainted as a FedEx cargo jet and armed with a nuclear weapon-headed for Washington.

Description: With this suspenseful, action-packed finale, Oliver North concludes the trilogy that has included his best-selling novels Mission Compromised and The Jericho Sanction.
Oliver L. North is a combat decorated marine, a #1 best-selling author, the founder of a small business, an inventor with three U.S. patents, a syndicated columnist, and host of "War Stories" on Fox News Channel; yet he claims his most important accomplishment as being "the husband of one and the father of four."
North was born in San Antonio, Texas, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and served 22 years as a U.S. Marine. His awards for service in combat include the Silver Star, the Bronze Star for Valor, and two Purple Hearts for wounds in combat.
Assigned to the national security council staff in the Reagan administration, Colonel North was the Unites States Government's Counter-Terrorism Coordinator from 1983-1986, was involved in planning the rescue of 804 medical students on the island of Grenada, and played a major role in the daring capture of the hijackers of the cruise ship Achille Lauro. After helping plan the U.S. raid on Muammar Qaddafi's terrorist bases in Libya, North was targeted for assassination by Abu Nidal, the infamous terrorist found dead in Baghdad in August, 2002. His award-winning combat coverage, while embedded with U.S. Marine and Army units for Fox News during Operation Iraqi Freedom, won international acclaim.
He is the Author of: Under Fire, One More Mission, War Stories-Operation Iraqi Freedom; and two novels: Mission Compromised and The Jericho Sanction. All of his books are New York Times' best-sellers.
North is also the founder of Freedom Alliance, a foundation which provides scholarships for the sons and daughters of service members killed in action.
Borders ran out of his "The Assassin: A Novel" before Col. North and Neil Cavuto arrived. Then, about 45 minutes later, before they arrived , the store announced that they had more copies of his book to sell.
Neil Cavuto was the primary speaker, when they arrived. He apologized for arriving late, and then Col North said a few words. Neil said they needed to start signing books and Col. North waived me over to the table to start the signings.
I was the first to have my books signed by Col. Oliver L. North. I was extremely honored to shake his hand and thank him for his service. The news camera was there and there were more people than I could count, buying his book.
As I walked away from Oliver North's table, I noticed three 'Useful Idiots' with small signs taped to their chest and back. They were quiet and skillfully placed to be a backdrop for the camera.
Someone later said that they were paid to show up at this event. They also said that they told the camera man that he needed pictures of the numerous military personnel in uniform getting their books signed by Col North, and that their choosing demonstrators as a backdrop was why that CBS, ABC, and NBC wasn't allowed on their home TVs (banned through family profiles on cable or satellite preferences). They said that they asked the camera man what his company's ratings were compared to FOX, but the camera man didn't answer. Well, a great time was had by all, and I was really surprised how tall and large Mr. Cavuto was, but both men were very polite, and very engaging with the crowd.
Ya'll should've been there. But there will be other book signings.

Atlanta!! I can't wait!
It's fun. And both Olie and Neil are a lot of fun.
I won't get to the book-signing, but I do intend to get the book. I already own the first two, and I enjoyed them thoroughly. The end of "Jericho Sanction" just screamed for a follow-up, and Oliver North has made me a happy reader by providing it.
This interests me about "Assassins": North's novels have a quasi-historical setting for their unhistorical events. Remember? In "Mission Compromised", the president is said to loathe the military, and sloppiness and informality are rife in the White House. These facts were true of the Clinton Administration. I've wondered how this would continue in the last book with its Bush-era timeline. In the part of the excerpt I read, the president is said to be very punctual, and opens a meeting with prayer. Everyone knows George Bush is punctual, and I believe he opens Cabinet meetings with prayer. The extent of this quasi-historical portrayal will interest me very much.
Has the Dallas signing already happened and, if not, will Neil be there?
The first two books of the trilogy were excellent, clean books.
Then you'll enjoy the third book.
Rats. I either missed him, or he isn't coming here.
He's also going to be at Arlington, TX on Wednesday, Oct 19 for an In-Store Signing between 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM CST at LifeWay on 4211 South Cooper St.; Suite 105; Arlington , TX 76015 .
I drove from Northeast Philly to Harrisburg, over 120 miles to get those books signed.
I was talking about Neil. I might drive to Arlington to see the Colonel, but I was hoping to see Cavuto, too.
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my FoxFan list. *Warning: This can be a high-volume ping list at times.
Thanks for the ping!
