Newdow Wants To Change Entire Pledge Of Allegiance

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A man who is fighting to get the words "under God" out of the Pledge of Allegiance was back in federal court Wednesday, making some surprising comments about the case.

Although the hearing was a procedural matter with no key rulings, Michael Newdow said that if he is successful in having the words removed from the pledge at the U.S. Supreme Court level, it still wouldn't be enough.

Newdow believes that it is time to get rid of the old Pledge of Allegiance altogether. He said that it's impractical to just change the pledge because children will continue to say "under God" out of habit or under protest.

"The whole point of the pledge was to unify the students, and it's not," Newdow said outside the hearing Wednesday. "(The pledge) has become divisive, not so much because it has been the atheists who have become discriminated (against), and they don't have so much of a voice. But if the Christians and the people who believe in God want to start throwing 'God' in there, the pledge will be continuing 'one nation indivisible,' while someone is saying 'under God.' And I think it's going to be a mess, and I think we're going to have to get rid of it."

Newdow also said there should possibly be some kind of a competition to come up with a new pledge.

Judge Lawrence Carleton in the hearing Wednesday told Newdow and attorneys for three Sacramento-area school districts that once the procedural motions are filed, he will quickly file an injunction against the schools, and then send the case to the Ninth District Circuit Court of Appeals. Carleton said he would not rule on the merits of the case himself.

School district attorney Terrance Cassidy said that the case is proceeding as expected.

"We're pleased that he announced that he would immediately enter a stay of any injunction that he would enter so that the school district would not change its day-to-day procedure and would be able to continue to recite the Pledge of Allegiance on a day-to-day basis throughout ... all the appeals," Cassidy said.

In my view the best thing to do with newdow is clip the rope to his belt and run him up the flagstaff and then say the pledge to him till he surrenders then let him down.

Sorry for the rant folks but I have had enough of this idiot trying to misuse and abuse the Constitution for his own communist leanings..

BINGO...... We have a winner. The first person to label Newdow for what he is, a communist, gets to drive the train that a previous poster mentioned as Newdow slept on the tracks ahead.....

What I would like to have established, for the record, is where the rest of the liberals (like Kennedy, Clinton, Leahy, Durbin, Dean, Kerry, et al) stand on the issue of the destruction of the 'Pledge'????? Do they agree with Newdow or are they opposed to his actions?

Don't mention it. This idiot Newdow (a much worse attention whore than Cindy Sheehan, IMHO) doesn't get that Americans don't want the pledge to change. I wish he'd just go away.

If Newdoubt doesn't want to say the Pledge, why doesn't he keep his own piehole shut and quit worrying about what others say?

People meet early graves for such worry.

This whole crap n' caboodle just goes to prove how intolerant LIBERAL ATHEISTS are. I'm so tired of this sh it. "be tolerant of gay marriage, accept it, embrace it, be tolerant of banning prayer and religion! Be tolerant of leftist hate speech, be tolerant of trannies as teachers in your schools, be tolerant and accepting of teaching the gay lifestyle. Dammit, a little 5-year-old can't even say grace before her snack in kindergarten anymore because her teacher said she wasn't allowed to pray in school.

The liberals are the ones who are intolerant. If they allow all this nonsensical garbage to be accepted as normal, than they should be accepting of prayer and the pledge of allegiance in school. They don't have to pray. They don't have to say the pledge. Just sit there and accept it the same way they expect us to accept their crap.

He should have to pay all the court cost, personally.

In fact anyone who brings up a frivolous lawsuit should pick up the whole tab.

Michael Newdow is/was Cindy Sheehan.

Both of these mental midgets used their children as stepping stones to glory.

I just wonder - if people who happily recite "under God" and "in God we trust" were to earnestly pray to the Sovereign enmasse that Newdoubt be removed from the political scene - I just wonder how long Newdoubt's fuse would last?

I'd hate to know I was such an offense to so many people.

"Wouldn't it be easier to get rid of him instead of the pledge of allegiance ?"

We could always inquire of the Almighty of His thoughts, as He sees fit.

"The whole point of the pledge was to unify the students, and it's not," Newdow said outside the hearing Wednesday. "(The pledge) has become divisive,

Nay, the Pledge has remained consistent in intent and largely consistent in verbiage. "People" have become divisive. Better to change people, like Newdow, than to change the pledge.
