Levin is an expert on these matters. he knows the machinations of the court, he understands and can explain why so many republican appointments drift left once they get there.

he understands and can explain why so many republican appointments drift left once they get there. The way he explained it when he was pushing his book on the Howie Carr show was that their heads are turned by the DC social scene (which Scalia and Thomas don't go in for). I could be wrong, but I don't think a serious evangelical Christian would see much desirable in the good opinion of the DC social scene.

"Levin is an expert on these matters."
Yeah, he was part of the crew that gave us O'Connor and Kennedy. Thanks, Mark!

Yeah, right; that's why when he vetted Kennedy, we wound up with him on the SCOTUS, I suppose.

I read a theory the other day that Tony Snow and Mark Levin are going overboard on their dislike of the Miers nomination because Snow really went to bat for Souter while working for the Bush41 term and got screwed and Levin went to bat for Kennedy and got burned.
I don't know if Levin's arguments are from his knowledge of the mechanisms of the court or the fact that he is skitish on trusting an unknown again

Let's remember how well he vetted Kennedy. Some expert.

Actually, he doesn't.
Her service in Washington under a Republican administration will most likely innoculate her against such a drift.

I agree.
Levin looks at things from the perspective of a constitutional lawyer.
Morris just looks at things from the perspective of a James Caarville. He'd sell his own mother for votes if he were managing a political campaign. Savy guy, but no principles.

I think that Justices who turned lefty once appointed, are why so many conservatives are frightened of Harriet Miers. I know that's how I feel. I wanted a nominee who is truly conservative in every aspect, not some unknown quantity. Big fight during the hearing process - let it happen! And no, I don't want to see a fight. What I don't want is another Souter, O'Connor, etc.
