The treatment of Vietnam Veterans by the Left has been despicable since the first man returned. The protesters and so-called veterans who opposed the war were willing accomplices of various Communist regimes, namely the Soviet Union. To smear men who served their country honorably is beneath contempt. History has shown that our opposition to Communism in Vietnam played an integral part in stopping the spread of the ideology of Lenin and Stalin. Hollywood perpetuates the image of the insane Vietnam Vet while the reality is quite different. Many of these men excelled in the professional world in a desire to leave behind the insults of the “peace movement”. Men such as John O’Neil and the Swift Vets are now retired and have set out to right a terrible wrong. Let us all hope the efforts of such men may salvage the reputation so many Americans who sacrificed so much on the alter of freedom.

As an aside, I attended a recent ceremony for the Moving Wall during which a speaker read from a speech given by his father in the 80's. The speech basically concluded that the war was nothing but a political war and came very close to saying it was a total waste of lives. I found it offensive, to say the least, and I'm still wondering if I was the only one who felt that way.
