Abkhazia will not allow U.S., EU to deploy peacekeeping forces

SUKHUMI, September 30 (RIA Novosti) - The president of Abkhazia, a self-proclaimed independent republic on Georgian territory, said he would not agree to the deployment of U.S. and EU peacekeeping forces in the region.

"The CIS peacekeeping troops were sent to the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone in line with the May 14, 1994 agreement on a ceasefire and the disengagement of forces," Sergei Bagapsh said, responding to a proposal by Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili to involve the United States and the European Union in the peacemaking process. "Abkhazia does not plan on making any amendments to the document."

"No other countries can be engaged in the peacekeeping process without our consent," Bagapsh said.

Saakashvili said Wednesday that the U.S. and EU should be part of the settlement efforts in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the other self-proclaimed republic in Georgia. "Russia has played a crucial role in the process, but the U.S., which has expressed willingness, must also get involved," the Georgian president said.

Saakashvili said the EU could also play a central role in resolving the conflicts. "Russia is a major player, but Europe must also become more actively involved."

Moldova's Transdnestr region, another self-proclaimed post-Soviet republic, recently agreed to U.S. and EU mediation but only as observers, the republic's foreign ministry said Friday.

The decision regarding Transdnestr was reached during recent talks between the two conflicting sides and mediators (Russia, Ukraine, and the OSCE) held in Odessa, a Ukrainian Black Sea city. The OSCE adopted a document that said observers had no right to participate in decision-making, to sign protocols, to preside over meetings, or to call for meetings.

"We have long been opposed to U.S. involvement, as its role in the Balkans, for example, did not improve, but rather deteriorated, things," Valery Litskai, the foreign minister of Transdnestr, said.

Ajaria is another region which didn't want Georgian rule. The Ajarians don't want the Russian troops there to leave. When Georgia reclaimed Ajaria, their leader Abashidze fled -- to Russia.==

So what georgians achived? One more smaller nation hate them:(. They complain about russian imperial rule sametime what they do themselves? Hypocrisy again.

BTW as far as I knew Abashidze fled to Turkey maybe through Russia. As muslim he befriended them.

Since Ajaria borders Turkey, why would he have to go there via Russia? As far as I know he is in Moscow.

A number of Georgian media circulated reports yesterday that Vladimir Arutyunian, who was arrested on charges of the attempted assassination of the two presidents, was a member of the Revival Party, whose leader for 13 years was former president of Ajaria Aslan Abashidze. Journalists and investigators obtained this information from neighbors of the accused. The investigators are verifying these reports, including information that Arutyunian was involved in the events in Ajaria last year, when armed Abashidze supporters confronted the central authorities on the administrative boundary between Georgia and Ajaria.

This is exactly wrong. The matter of fact that the creation of USSR manifested that russians lost the ruling power in former Russian Empire as result of WHite Movement lost Civil war. So new state was named Soviet Union no word "russian" in it.

If Poland were invaded by state named "Europian Union" not Germany and germans was involved in EU state by force then we got same situation like with Soviet Union and russians.

Sorry, but I will still blame Germans. Germans elected Hitler, Germans supported him, germans fought in his wars. If we keep demanding of Putin that he acknowledge Soviet crimes we cannot at the same time let the Germans off.

Nope. Before it was October Revolt in Russian Empire. And first bolshevick goverment of Russian Empire(or Russia for shortness).

Yeah yeah:)). If for you 2 sides of one coin is same then same:). But I did never see no coin with identical sides.
Remeber that "similar" is not same. It means likewise not equal.

So with liberalism and communism. 2 sides of one coin. Similar but not same but opposites. Hence 2 extremes which converge together.

As far as I understand you blame only russians not georgians (Stalin and Beria the head of NKWD in 1949 both georgians) ukranians not belorusses not latvians not uzbeks not one of 115 ethnicities of USSR.

So if you prove that Stalin was elected only by russians on free election and was sameway supported by them then russians are like germans here.
