I am looking forward to the possibility of Mrs. Miers crossexamaning an ACLU type. Unfortunately we will never see Mrs. M handing Souter his ass in deliberations.

In addition, what is wrong with keeping a strong conservative appellate court?

Once again you enlighten me with an incredibly and wholly accurate *rolls eyes* portrayal of me, pray tell I think I had you pegged when I so sarcastically wondered if you were omnipotent(you know saying Bush doesnt know her and everything, like you obviously do) you even have me figured for omg man the pitchforks and the torches a BUSHBOT, my god that hurts me really.

I dont really need to get into an ideological argument with a mental midget such as yourself whos only argument is to call somebody a Bushbot, whats next you going to call me a Kool-aid drinker? Nuthugger?Fanboy? Please enlighten me oh great and omnipotent rbmillerj!

I'm shocked anyone would post this tweedle. If this is what an American Thinker comes up with, maybe we should think twice about thinking. When you cut through all the BS, it comes down to TRUST ME on my pick of a FOB/crony (aka a long time family friend from Texas).

I guess I wasted my time explaining the Senate situation to you. Apparently you think Voinovich and Hagel are definite yes votes.

I'm certainly glad you aren't the Senate whip. Carry on!

No the politics of doom and gloom are in full bloom from the Bush haters and tinfoil conservatives on this thread tonight. Offering a trully speculative and valid counter argument and in a strategic light isnt a doom and gloom, and besides that the Right has been winniong fights lately not freom head on drag it out fights at every turn but by picking the fights carefully. The last election should have taught everybody that.

We want the ugliest knock-down, drag-out fight on the Senate floor in the history of the republic, so that we can finally put the stake in the heart of the Democrat vampire party.

And you want Olympia Snow and Susan Collins to lead the charge in this great Senate masacre, right?

Nobody wants a fight more than me, but I certain don't want the weak spined Senate we've been watching for the past few years fighting on my behalf.

My neighbor has a parakeet with larger nads that anybody in the senate.

The Senators are gentile, and don't know how to fight. When it's time for battle, God Help Us if the battle occurs in the Senate.

Looks like someone needs to go back and review their Sesame Street tapes of "The Count". Trouble is I don't thing they ever got up to 50.

Many thanks for the ping, I had surfed by this article earlier, wanted to read it and promptly forgot about it.

And I'll remark yet again, about the number of unfamiliar screen names who suddenly feel compelled to post negatively about Meirs and the President.

Just sort of like they crawled out of the woodwork....like cockroaches.

I disagree on your position concerning the need for being a student of the Constitution.

What seems most lacking on the court in recent years is just plain common sense.

McCain Feingold - stupid. No need for deep thinking.

The recent government taking land for some business/economic interest? Stupid.

Massachusetts supremes discovering (inventing) the right to gay marriage? Stupid.

Pledge of allegiance with under God? Easy - hopw does this establish religion? Automatic decision.

Racial quotas are OK? Stupid. Law is to be applied equally.

In almost all cases we aren't splitting hairs. These are basic common sense understanding of what the words mean. As long as a person is not chasing an agenda, or feels his own judgement is so great he needs to decide different meanings for words, in all cases these are very easy decisions to make right.

I could go on and on more - but I think the point is made. Current justices lack common sense.

Yes, I am a mental midget aft liz...you have your consensus, compromise, nominee of conciliation.

You enjoy the mock distraught from Biden and Kennedy...some will even vote against her...but they outfoxed Bush on this one...enjoy the circus.

I will enjoy the circus too...but it won't be so funny come midterm and 08 election time. We have a weak President, an unpopular war...and lame duck that the media and prosecutors will go after with the zeal of a shark in bloodied waters.

You enjoy.

Exactly right. The squishy RINO's make the nomination and confirmation process much more difficult for the President.

Let us hope they themselves are replaced with some R's with backbones at their next elections.

You know, old George did a fine job of getting himself re-elected. If he pushed straight conservative issues you would have President Kerry making these picks.

Just a thought - you might be a bit grateful to old W for managing the job as he has.

I also think there is a disconnect with the evangelical Christian dimensions of this pick. I think it borders on a discomfort.

I'm trying to put my finger on the bizarre reaction of so many FReepers and that's the only angle I can come up with as well. They talk about this pick somehow alienating the base, when just the opposite has ocurred! Bush gave the coveted "swing vote" on the Supreme Court to a born again evangelical middle-American Christian! I think the "Secular Right" (how's that for a new label?) is freaked out. They counted on the religious right for support in the elections, but never dreamed Bush would actually reward us with the keys to the Supreme Court!

I continue to be absolutely amazed at the reaction to this nomination,

And it's even more demoralizing because these naysayers cannot offer concrete evidence as to WHY they are opposed. I keep reading posts that start out: "I think....." "I feel....."

I want facts. Not emotion.

What we're getting from the naysayers is emotion and they fly off the handle when anyone pushes for fact.

Sometimes I feel like I'm in Jr Hi sitting at the lunch table caught between a Hawkeye and a Cyclone fan.

Feelings don't cut it for me. Give me facts or don't expect to change my mind.

Younger is better. Look how long Rehnquist served. Roberts is young. If he turns out to be a good conservative vote, you can't get any better than that.

I don't know if Hillary the ice witch will get in, but if she does, the thought of whatever justice she might appoint makes my blood run cold. Let's hope W fills up all the spots - Ginsberg is probably holding on for dear life waiting for Hillary to become president.
