This morning, President Bush held a Rose Garden Press Conference , his first since May 31, addressing the issues of his nomination of Harriet Miers for Supreme Court Associate Justice, as well as the continued clean up following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and the improvement of the Iraqi army.
Welcome to Sanity Island and your Daily Dose!
Quote of the Day: THE PRESIDENT: Yes.
Q -- in our latest poll --
THE PRESIDENT: The what?
Q In our latest poll --
THE PRESIDENT: Latest poll? (Laughter.)
Q Yes, our latest poll.
THE PRESIDENT: Okay.
Q I know you don't pay attention to polls, but, anyway, in our latest poll --
THE PRESIDENT: You run one every other day. (Laughter.)
Q I know.
THE PRESIDENT: You mean yesterday's poll, as opposed to tomorrow's poll? Go ahead. It's a good way to fill space, Richard. (Laughter.)
Q It is. Eighty-five percent of the Republicans approve of the job you're doing, but only 15 percent of the Democrats approve of the job you're doing. What is it about that the Democrats find so objectionable?
THE PRESIDENT: Ask the pollsters. My job is to lead and to solve problems.........
....... Q Thank you, Mr. President. You said several times now, sir, that you don't want a justice who will be different 20 years from now than she is today. Given that standard, I wonder in hindsight whether you think the appointment of Justice David Souter, then, was a mistake? And even --
THE PRESIDENT: You're trying to get me in trouble with my father, Baker. (Laughter.)
Q Well, I'm trying to understand what informed your choice this time?
THE PRESIDENT: Call him. (Laughter.) Go ahead. Sorry to interrupt you.
Q Well, the second part of my question is, if there's no litmus test, regardless of who serves on the Supreme Court, would you like to see the Supreme Court overturn Roe v. Wade?
THE PRESIDENT: You know, I'm not going to interject that kind of issue in the midst of these hearings. Harriet Miers will stand on her own. I made my position very clear in the course of my campaigns, my position, and I'm a pro-life President. Harriet Miers is going to go up to the Senate, and they're going to look at her and determine whether or not she's got the temperament, the intelligence, and the philosophy to be an excellent Supreme Court judge. And she will be. She will be.
This one captured the spirit of the moment.... ..this is one of those 'man of a thousand expressions' days.......
DOSE PING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please wait for the ALL CLEAR to post or repost other photos
Oh Cool! Pictures of the Prez! Me First!(?) I love this!!
This expression captured me too for some reason...........
hi
top Ten?
This really needs a caption!
Say what??
Hi Ohio!
Thanks for the dose. President Bush mulls the phrase: "Terry, don't get stuck on stupid."
How are you doing this evening?
Hi!
Bemusement......
A republican president making fun of the press? Even more cool! I love the way Rummy makes fun of their questions.
This one's an older photo of the President working with Harriet Miers vetting previous judicial appointments......
I saw the presser & felt he was playing/toying with the media. He would call on one.. such as Elizabeth (New York Slimes) and had this LOOK of "well here we go again" even before she uttered a word.
He knew what they were going to do but let himself open to it.. can't say he ignored the press during his time of pressure for HIS PEOPLE~
What a guy~
She appears more fashionable now (I know, I know, what does that have to do with the price of corn flakes).. in this pix she looks rather matronly.
Be back later!!
(And yes, this is COOL!)
Number two, mystery. Try harder. ;)
