Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 4, 2005 -- The author of a conservative children's book is condemning published reports that a public school in Lexington, Massachusetts, is forcing its kindergarten students to read a book promoting gay marriage. Katharine DeBrecht, the author of "Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed" (Kids Ahead; hardcover $15.95; ISBN 0976726904), criticized the school and asked why the very same liberals who have vocally attacked her book and called her a "Nazi" have been so silent in this case.
Reports recently surfaced that Estabrook School mandated that all kindergarteners read "Who's in a Family," a picture book that endorses the controversial topic of gay marriage, and invited gay parents to come into class to talk to the young children about the topic. The story came to light when David and Tonia Parker -- two parents who ironically support gay marriage but do not want their son exposed to the topic -- sought and failed to get their child exempted from the controversial curriculum. Their protests have not only fallen on deaf ears, but the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Massachusetts has intoned that it supports the school's decision to have five-year-olds learn about homosexuality over their parents' objections.
"This is yet another example of liberals bringing their ideological agenda into our classrooms," says DeBrecht. "It is bad enough that a public school would seek to expose young children to an issue like gay marriage in the first place, but it is even more outrageous that they would ignore the request of parents who want to shield their kids from this topic."
DeBrecht added that liberal children's books have long been finding their way into our nation's schools. Another pro-gay marriage book, "King & King," has also turned up in many classrooms across America, as has the picture book "Rainbow Fish," which tells a socialist story of a beautiful fish that is hectored into giving away his shiny scales.
"It's ironic that liberals have so vehemently objected to parents acquiring my book, but we"ve heard no outcry against the Lexington kindergarten reading list," notes DeBrecht, whose book tells the story of two brothers who open a lemonade stand only to have cartoon look-alikes of Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy tax away their profits and outlaw sugary drinks.
Left-wing blogger and pro-gay marriage pundit Andrew Sullivan said "Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed" invoked memories of Chinese dictator Mao Tse-Tung. Alan Colmes, co-host of Fox's Hannity & Colmes, called DeBrecht's book "brainwashing." MSNBC host Ron Reagan mused that he should write his own kid"s book depicting conservatives as "hat[ing black people." The Democratic Underground website listed DeBrecht on their "Top 10 Conservative Idiots" list. And Daily Kos, the most trafficked left-wing blog, likened the book to Nazi propaganda. "Apparently liberals are happy to see young kids exposed to political issues, just as long as it's from a left-wing perspective," adds DeBrecht, who is a mother of three. "And the ACLU has shown it is willing to even go one step further and fight to support a public school's right to indoctrinate. Conservative parents have no choice but to make sure their kids have a chance to hear about traditional values, because it surely will not happen in school."

Thank you, liberals.
Lexington: A suburb of Boston with lots of upper middle class liberals.
This is just plain wrong and by that I mean schools taking on the decision to educate children on social issues at a young age. This is a parent's job to do but I guess liberalism means that it's okay for them to do it for you.
ugh.
He shows up in Lexington he'll be arrested for hate crimes.
Frankly, I don't understand why the school is defining who can be a family at all for kindergardners. Have have they run out academics and motor skills to teach?
Hehe....even Yahoo gets it right on "Andrew"!
Lexington is lousy with maggots - they also run the school department.
When a grouchy queen tells her layabout son that it's time for him to marry, he sighs, "Very well, Mother.... I must say, though, I've never cared much for princesses." His young page winks.
-- almost lost my lunch!
Perhaps it would be better titled Queen & Queen, or is that not PC?

We need school choice in this country. I should be allowed to send my kids and my (huge amount of ) property tax $$ to the school that I choose....then the little liberals can go to their school and this kind of trash can be dumped into their brains without anyone else having to be harmed by it.....
Anyone not already convinced that the liberals intend to brainwash kids against their parents Soviet-style is living in a dream.
If you're not home schooling or sending your kids to private school you are willingling giving your children propaganda time with the libs.
As Liberals go down the road to normalcy of everything. I can picture the New Yorker cartoon: "Thank fate, our child turned out to be a lesbian and not a conservative."
This "diversity" agenda has no business in the schools, but the real reason for "sex ed" was to give the teachers a platform to promote the liberal agenda. Moving to the younger years simply indicates that the liberals believe they did not strike kids at a young enough age with sex ed. (Too many teenagers aparently can make up their own minds, but kids in kindergarten are probably moldable.)

Right! Indoctrinate everyone else but don't touch my child. (sarc)
What's lost in all this loud debating, is the fact that very few public school kindergarteners can actually read at all. Most likely the actual argument is over whether or not this book should be read TO them. More parents should be like these pro-gay marriage parents -- not getting caught up in the question of whether the political agenda in the school curriculum does or doesn't match their own beliefs, but rather attacking the basic principle of using public schools to brainwash little children with political agendas, while giving scant attention to basic academic skills like reading, writing, and math.
This is the type of thing, judging by her past, that Harriet Miers will find perfectly normal
I am a college student and just yesterday in my English class two black students started laughing that there was an ad in the student newspaper looking for teachers for GAY CHILDREN!!
Then the teacher (who's a white liberal) heard this and started arguing that we all need to be tolerant and that it was a wonderful idea!! Me and the two black students were absolutely dumbfounded.
Is it any wonder why I hate this school?
And they say conservitives are brainwashing their kids?

Exactly what I was thinking -- these fools are a greater threat than the damned libs foisting this on our kids.
Do they have room in the jail? You do have Henry Earl, after all.
Liberals know you have to get 'em while they're young. How would the liberals feel if we put our propaganda in Kindergarten? They would scream like a stuck pig.
