As political activists rush to mine Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers' slender public record, a former campaign manager says she opposed abortion rights while running for Dallas City Council in 1989.
"She is on the extreme end of the anti-choice movement," said Lorlee Bartos, who managed Miers' first and only political campaign and said they discussed abortion once during the race.
"I think Harriet's belief was pretty strongly felt," Bartos said Monday. "I suspect she is of the same cloth as the president."

Well, thats ONE thing positive about her!
>>will she hold up if Ruth Bader Ginsburg becomes an influential friend?<<
I was militant Pro-Death 10 years ago.
I am militant Pro-Life now.
People wake up and smell the formaldehyde.
Thank God she has.
"Do we have a name for Conservative Moonbats? "
Moveon.org conservatives working for the destruction of the Republican Party. They want to create the Donner Party and spend every day eating each other.
A pro-Constitution justice would be more wonderful. Frankly, I could care less about the abortion litmus test. What we need is a constructionist justice. I for one am VERY concerned about this particular choice. A great many Catholic voters are "pro-life" but vote for socialist policy (Democrats) over and over. The conservative base put Bush in office. We deserve better than "question mark" SCOTUS appointments. If Bush screws me on this, I won't give a dime to or vote for a Republican for the rest of my life. I'm done with it.
What are you reading? I'd like to read up on her too.
that's fine. hang out everyday for the next 5 years with ginsburg, breyer and souter - then talk to me.
I was listening to Tony Snow earlier and he talked about what went on while he served under Bush senior when they made the decision about Souter. He said noone knew anything about him and he was rushed into the SCOTUS, but after looking into his record after he was sworn in, there was numerous writings, etc. that indicated that he was a liberal.
Sure, just like Bush SR showed us how to pick-em with Souter. If I were you, I'd reserve the bloviation.
Do you mean democrats.:)
"But, but... This has been the perfect opportunity for the trolls to divide and conquer."
Ha! All these Donner Party trolls are doing is picking the toe cheese out of each others feet. Bark Bark Bark go the moonbats.

Trust me, I've hung out with worse.
My sister is an ex-Cleveland teacher/Flaming Lib/recently out of the closet lesbian with Munchausen Syndrome.
If one is a strong woman, one stands up for beliefs.
But Rehnquist was a law professor, which means he had the kind of scholarly experience you want in a Supreme Court justice. I'm afraid this isn't the place for "seat of the pants" reasoning. Someone who is a solid social conservative, as she seems to be, but isn't used to thinking in terms of Constitutional law, could do real damage in the long run. To give an example from the other side, Roe v. Wade is often noted as an incredibly sloppy legal opinion. It might have been easier to at least limit the right to abortion if Roe had been tightly reasoned, instead of just giving the result the court wanted.
The good news for us is that her views and the Constitution itself are on the side of life. No serious scholar can really say Roe was remotely based on our Constitution.
Wait till Chuck finds out what we are slowing learning. I can see flames shooting out of his nostrils already.
LOL! I hope you're right.
Why should I want "scholarly experience"?
As an engineer, I deal with scholars all the time. While they may be brilliant at theories, they couldn't make the lights work in their house if their life depended on it.
Scholars will give you answers that "eminate from the penumbra". A technician will just tell you if you are crazy or not. In my opinion, a good old-fashioned blue collar lawyer is just what SCOTUS needs.
What's your source for progun?
I am encouraged about this report re Roe.
True, but he also gave us Thomas. Give credit where it is due. Maybe Bush learned from his dad, and decided not to take any chances since he knew (first hand) she was the real deal. Just a guess.
