Count Ann Coulter among the conservatives who are unhappy with President Bushs nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.
Asked by NewsMax.com if she considers Miers to be what she had called John Roberts after his nomination - a "tabula rasa - Coulter, whos now out with the paperback edition of her best-seller "How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must), said:
"No. Shes something new: a complete mediocrity.
Ouch.
Can you explain what you mean by an activist to the right, please.
As for all the other stuff, especially spending and border control, Bush has been worse than past democrats. All I ever hear with regards to those is that Bush has a master plan that I am too stupid to understand. Maybe I am. I have a plan too. It's not as ingenious as the President's, but it goes like this...Pack the court with fire breathing, hard core, right wing, Attila the Hun constructionists, cut spending, and keep all the illegal folks out!
If they reject a nominee, send in one that they'll hate even more. If they stab your man, you kill theirs! (with apologies to Sean Connery)
"I don't want a "conservative" activist as a judge any more than a liberal activist. And Coulter would be a conservative activist."
A conservative activist is exactly what I want. I also think the conformation hearings could be quite lively.
Which means she outworks you and me, together.
Couple that with Roberts' desire to see the Supreme Court decide more cases than it currently does, and maybe it's a conspiracy to work the doddering liberals such as Stevens and Ginsburg to death.
Whoa- she's Christian??? The most important qualification a Supreme Court nominee should have and all these dumb Conservatives don't realize it! (/sarcasm OFF)
Ultimately the responsibility of maintaining a Constitutional government rest squarely on the shoulder of the citizens in a free society. While POTUS may have the power to nominate persons to positions of power the nomination must be approved by the voice of the people which is in the halls of congress. He as well works for us and is not our king. His powers were limited by the founders for a very good reason. That concept as well has fallen by the wayside as congress unlawfully surrenders to the Executive Branch powers not given it in the Constitution.
For that very reason alone we as citizens and taxpayers have every right and justification for demanding standards of qualification for any office holder in any branch of government from POTUS to local aldermen in our communities. The citizens as well have the right to support or oppose any official based on their qualifications for office and conduct. This is what the elections are held for and not some insane notion that any one party deserves to rule the nation regardless of how pathetic their canidate may be. Perhaps this man said it best.
All men having power ought to be mistrusted. James Madison
Sobering words and a wise warning for the woes of todays government.
Is it blind faith if I've met him, talked to him and played softball with him?
It's faith, true. But it's not blind faith. QED
So? You say that like it's a bad thing? ;)

New Jersey was plenty Democratic when I was there for a few decades, and my father was chummy with some of the biggest money grubbers in the state. The only money the Dems got from our family was when they beat it out of Dad at the poker table.
If Miers donated to Dems, it wasn't because she was surrounded and held up.
>>If Bush wants her, there's a good reason why.
Right. She's a moderate, just like he is. If people would just stop seeing a conservative in him, this would all be much easier to understand and accept. He's a compassionate conservative---it's like un-cola, lite beer, nicotine-free cigs, or decaf coffee, something so denatured of its essence as to be unworthy of the name. But the name helps sell the product.
Stealth yes. Fraud no. Confounding? Yes for the socialists. The Bork jockeys will go on a hunt for dirt and the game will be over. Bush is a good gamer.
Snivelers stay out of the way.
I hope she didn't say that. If she did we have to add "appearance of toadyism" to the original charge of "appearance of cronyism." And they go together like a ; and a )
"it's over, theres no future----"
If you are right, the Bible foretold the 'beginning of the end' or the 'end of the beginning' many centuries ago--those who wish to laugh at this post may do so--however, they do it at their peril --perhaps because they have never read the Scriptures and tried to understand what they tell us about the times we live in--I wish you all the peace I feel, for I know who oversees the 'affairs of men'
Ann's voice is smooth and sexy. Sometimes her voice bubbles with enthusiasm. She loves what she is doing. She is extremely attractive and someone you would feel honored to know personally. Ann's mind is one committed to conservative principles. When she takes a tack that is contrary to President Bush, she gets called by the mainstream media to voice her opinions. When that happens she is able to voice conservative principles. That is what we want happening.

Seems to be some disagreement on this thread.
I agree, Ann Coulter has the credentials to make an excellant Supreme Court justice. However, we need her right where she is because of the impact she can make on the culture through the access she gets in the media. I hope that access continues because Ann's dedication to conservative principles is what makes Ann so special.
Spot on jonrick! This is even better than his brilliant CFR double fake - up there perhaps with how he's playing the Mexican government like a fiddle - by taking all their constituents. You nailed it - The man really is a genius. His articulate eloquence is no act.
That's right. Be insulting and immature about it, sinkspur.
Time is on my side.
