Count Ann Coulter among the conservatives who are unhappy with President Bushs nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.
Asked by NewsMax.com if she considers Miers to be what she had called John Roberts after his nomination - a "tabula rasa - Coulter, whos now out with the paperback edition of her best-seller "How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must), said:
"No. Shes something new: a complete mediocrity.
Ouch.

As to the question of whether or not Miers is a mediocrity, at this point I'm willing to say, who cares?I care. The majesty of American law is best defended by those who reflect its majesty best.
As long as she's staunchly conservative, I can live with it.
Not enough information to say one way or another. The word I've heard in the press here is that she is ambitious. Makes me think of "Cassius hath a lean and hungry look".
Regards, Ivan

>>>>"No. Shes something new: a complete mediocrity.I think what Ann means, is that Miers isn't another Scalia or Thomas. And she is right. So whether its being unhappy or disappointed, conservatives think the President could have done better. Only time will tell what kind of justice Miers will turn out to be.

Because if you are all hoping that she will be an activist for the right, than you are no better than the activists on the left. That's exactly what they want. Someone who's in the bag.

The bimbo's are the ones that are saying "just trust the President". I like W alot personally, but "just trust me" is not an argument worthy of support. I wonder how the daily Bush picture-licking, politician-worship thread here on FreeRepublic is taking this one? I don't have the stomach to go look, but I can guess: "Ohhhh, he's sooooo dreeeeeamy. He can't make a mistake, so trust Your Rulers. Look, a picture of his wife and dog!"

"I am confused here. What is the role of a Supreme Court Justice?
It is to interpret the Constitution. Period. No politics, no activism, no self importance.
The question is, can she do this? Because if you are all hoping that she will be an activist for the right, than you are no better than the activists on the left."
Interpreting the Constitution WOULD constitute 'judicial activism' as it would necessitate overturning 50+ years of liberal unconstitutional precedent....

You have summed up my thoughts very nicely on this subject. Thank you. I have always enjoyed reading your posts.

A woman who contributes a large sum of money to the DNC five days before the Dukakis/Bush election is not "mediocrity".
Did she donate herself or the law firm she worked for. Outfits like that usually donate to both parties.

Oh, I didn't know we were talking about my tongue. Now that you are changing the subject and telling me that my tongue wouldn't hang out of my mouth if Ann looked like Reno--you got that right. It seems like a sexist comment to think that a woman who looks like Ann only got where she is because of her looks.

Ji Robinson put together a website and a political movement that ha at it very core value, 'It's about the Supreme Court Justices". The movement, this website has been had, and is a spent force. We've been had, it's over, there is no future as we hoped for it to be. It hurts, but that's the truth. The Judicial Tyranny has just begun.Well then, I guess we can all just "log off", hand the keys over to the Democrats, and call it a day. Good grief. In a matter of just a few hours, people like you have tossed in the towel, are convinced we're all doomed, because our President nominated someone we haven't heard of. Rumors started flying and many of those same rumors actually contradict each other.
In a matter of hours, the Republican party has come crashing down to the ground? I think not! Gosh, any DU'ers who are watching this sickening display of over-emotional blubbering, must be rejoicing. Thank God there are still Republicans who are strong enough and wise enough to carry on when our fellow Republicans drop in a heap of self-pity.

And his head of FEMA need not have any disaster management experienceBrown managed 150 disasters before Katrina, including four simultaneous hurricane relief efforts in Florida in 2004.
I'd say that was disaster management experience.

This will prove to be either the shrewdest or the lamest political decision of this presidency. I'm betting (hoping?) on the former. I remember the betting here on how "skillful" (read: principle-free) he was being when he signed off on the assault on the First Amendment, because everyone just knew the Supreme Court would toss it out.
How much money have people lost betting like this?
No principles, no guts, no standards - just Republican professional politicians. It's not all that hard to figure out.

Earl Warren also turned out to be a liberal and Eisenhower said later in life he regretted the appointment. You can't control another person's mind or know their deepest thoughts. Only God truly knows and the rest we have to take on faith.

Why are we conservatives so eager to fragg the Commander in Chief. The Libs join in lockstep and we fracture at the drop of a hat. It's no wonder we can't govern. WE cut off our own noses to spite our collective face.
Neither the President nor I want to go into battle with a bunch of wimps and quitters.
The truth is that a true conservative posture cannot survive the Dims, the media, and the quitters!

Even if a person is apt to shrug off her opinion-and I don't necessarily count myself in that camp-how can the opinions of so many others-left, right and center-be so cavalierly dismissed?
Thus far, the only people even tangentially connected to legal circles-outside of the clubby atmosphere that Miers has previously operated in-who have commented favorably upon her nomination are members of the ACLJ.
You're absolutely correct.
This is an astoundingly bad choice.
