Dear ------,
Today, President Bush announced his choice to succeed Justice Sandra Day O'Connor as the next Supreme Court Justice: Harriet Miers. Ms. Miers is the third woman to be nominated for the Supreme Court, and like Justice O'Connor is a legal trailblazer. Ms. Miers is an extremely well-qualified and fair-minded individual who is committed to interpreting the law instead of legislating from the bench.
President Bush selected Ms. Miers after embarking on a thorough and deliberate thought process. This confirmation however promises to be much more contentious than the confirmation of Judge John Roberts. Before Ms. Miers was even announced many Democrat groups said they would oppose her. They have no interest in giving Ms. Miers a fair hearing or vote. They are promising to throw every punch, make every accusation and pressure every Senator to oppose this nominee no matter what her qualifications may be. We have to be prepared to counter their actions and that is why Harriet Miers needs your help.
To ensure Ms. Miers is confirmed by the U.S. Senate, I need you to do three things.
1. Call your Senators. Tell them Harriet Miers has your support and deserves theirs.
2. Sign our petition in support of the timely confirmation of Harriet Miers.
3. Call talk radio, write a letter to the editor of your local paper and tell your friends and neighbors why you support the President's choice.
Harriet Miers has a record that demonstrates a commitment to faithfully applying the Constitution. For more information on the nominee, go to www.gop.com.
In the coming years and decades, the decisions the Supreme Court makes will greatly affect all of our lives. We need a jurist on the court who will not legislate from the bench, who will approach cases with an open mind and who will be fair. Ms. Miers is that jurist. Call your Senators. Tell them to vote yes on the confirmation of Harriet Miers.
Sincerely,
Ken Mehlman, RNC Chairman
There are thousands of people who have better credentials than this lady.
Who is that woman Ms. Miers?

I agree 100%
If this turns out badly the fact that she's old might be the best thing about her.
Thanks for the info, it is appreciated.
I agree. I really don't know much about this nominee, but I didn't know much about Roberts either. In this political climat, with everything else going on, I just don't think it would be smart to confront the Dems head on.
I trust him to put a candidate up that is going to further his views and that has a chance of confirmed.
And you are very correct, if I want to hear this kinda of stuff about George Bush, I just go lurk on DU.
I received the same email--sent a reply that I do not WANT another O'Conner--she was awful. (And that's all).
They are never confronted so they continue to push their propaganda and their agenda, and the country continues to drift to the left. THAT is what is unacceptable.
What is your strategy for success? Or perhaps I should ask what is your definition of success?
The base is unmotivated. We feel like the african-americans of the Republican party. On the Republican plantation, if you will. We will NOT continue to send the same people up there to continue to harvest our votes and then tell us to shut up, where are you going to go?
I intend to do the same thing. Living in California I am not in a position of voting for anyone conservative, so will begin to donate to those members of the House and Senate who whole the values I admire. The rest can go pound sand.
I already contacted all my reps..tld them in no uncertain terms I did NOT support this candidate and expected a NO vote.
Well, unlike the blacks the conservatives will stay home or vote third party. The biggest reason I have been sticking with the GOP is the judicial appointments. If THIS is the best they can do WHEN WE HAVE A MAJORITY what is the freaking point?
Exactly what I believe we are seeing. Conservative stealth nominees that George W is comfortable with. Ones that baffle the Democrats. Also, a large pool of competent conservative palate judges for future Presidents to draw on. Why would the base not be motivated? Only because GW refuses to be radical in his responses to the Dems. The conservative movement has made incredible progress under GW.
Oh come on...how many yrs ago was that? Texas was democrat through and through in those days. My folks were conservative dems...when Reagan came on the seen folks moved into the Republican party, especially when the dembos changed into a socialist/communist party/platform. Texas is NO LONGER a dem state...we're now Republican through and through. LBJ is a very poor example.
"LBJ is a very poor example"
No, he is an excellent example of how the Republican Party has moved so far left that they can barely be distinguished from the LBJ Democrats. Bush has spent more money than LBJ ever dreamed of.
What about Lyndon Johnson, Sam Rayburn, Ralph Yarborough, Sheila Jackson Lee, Paul Begala, Molly Ivins, Jim Hightower... I'm not saying that you're wrong about Texas being a conservative state, but I'm saying there are many many many liberals as well.
I agree...but they're NOT IN THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION!!!!
