In the latest in a series of arrests involving illegal aliens at nuclear facilities, federal agents arrested three illegal aliens in Blair, Nebraska, on September 15 when they attempted to enter the outer secure area of the Omaha Public Power Districts Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station to perform contract work at the plant for the first time.
The three men, all citizens of Mexico, had been hired by an independent contractor to perform maintenance work at the nuclear facility. As they attempted to enter a secure area of the plant, the men presented identification documents that raised the suspicions of Omaha Public Power District security officers. The officers contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials for assistance. ICE agents responded and arrested the men after determining that they were illegally present in the United States.
All three men have been placed in immigration removal proceedings. ICE agents are investigating the circumstances under which the private contractor hired the illegal aliens. ICE agents have determined that the illegal aliens were not engaged in any terrorist activity.
Americas security depends on controlling access to sensitive facilities like nuclear power plants ICE works closely with these industries across the nation to identify vulnerabilities that pose a potential security threat.
The enforcement action in Nebraska is the latest in a series of ICE arrests involving illegal aliens performing contract work at nuclear plants and other nuclear-related facilities around the country. To date, there have been 56 investigations of nuclear power plants and 1,005 related employers, and 64,835 employee audits have been completed.
In another national security-related case -- this one in New Jersey -- four company owner/operators of a Mount Laurel business pleaded guilty to charges that they used their business to illegally transfer sensitive national security controlled items to state-sponsored research institutes within the Peoples Republic of China.
All of the defendants are naturalized U.S. citizens. Xu Weibo pleaded guilty to a three-count Information charging one count of conspiracy to violate the Export Administration Act and the Arms Export Control Act, and one count each of violating the Export Administration Act and the Arms Export Control Act. Xiu Ling Chen, Hao Li Chen, and Kwan Chun Chan each pleaded guilty to one-count Information charging conspiracy to violate United States export laws, namely the Export Administration Act and the Arms Export Control Act. Sentencing is scheduled for February 6, 2006.

I thought I heard somewhere that the ACLU or some other "civil liberties" group had won a lawsuit saying that, in effect, if an employer asked a prospective employee about his/her immigration status, they (the employer) would be liable to anti-discrimination charges. Kind of like the "no profiling" laws on the books now. So you can go after kids and grandmas at the airport but don't even think about searching arab-looking persons.

I think ICE should clip the right ear of Illegals when they are deported, just like is done with hogs. If they come back a second time illegaly, they are to be considered terrorists and enemies of the state and should be eliminated on site.
Same goes for employers of illegals. If they employers weren't hiring them, they would not come.
To: Rio
Yeah, and when the local ABC affiliate reported this they pooh-poo'd the arrest because the illegals were "just mowing the grass". Access/proximity to facility meant nothing to them, nor the fact that they are ILLEGALLY here.
I wish they would jail and fine the contractors.

Incredible potential for terrorist's to do real damage, how easily one of these illegals could have been a terrorist makes one shudder in fear AND outrage.

"police contacted the INS"
Have you ever tried to do that? Contacting the INS is like hunting chicken teeth. If your concern does't involve hundreds of illegals - don't bother to call.

I wonder how educated those dorks are. I bet they can't even read in Spanish much less English. The contractor should be banned from all nuclear power plants.

The situation at our border is a disaster waiting to happen. The arrogant politicians in Washington should be held accountable for failing to take action if that day ever comes. They are committing a criminal act of treason by turning a blind eye to the steady stream of criminals crossing our borders illegally everyday. The government can't pick and choose which laws it wants to enforce if it wants to keep the respect of the people. The blatant corruption is disgusting.

It's reported regularly that illegals all over our military bases, nuclear facilities, etc, etc.
This is really just beyond outrageous. And you know what? No one will be fired, no one will be held responsible for these laughable, unbelievable security breaches.

"Exactly right, jail the employers."
You got it - putting the illegals in camps wouldn't do a thing as long as the guy can hire a new "crop" to fill their shoes. But some employers having to spend a bundle on high-priced lawyers to get them out of their orange jumpsuits would have a lasting ripple effect.

U.S. Homeland "Security" is a JOKE
Speaking of Homeland Security, whatever happened to all of those imminent threats just prior to the elections last year? Remember that? For two years we were told that a biological, chemical, or nuclear attack was inevitable. Have you heard anything lately?
But sure--let's allow anyone, their mother, five siblings, and two cousins across the border.
