I have to say that both President Bush and Harriet said everything possible to make her confirmation near impossible. Why? Looks like a lot of Democrats are going to be forced to publicly smear a woman.

Agreed. She is an impossible nomination. But that's the greatest part! This is Bush's attempt to screw the dems HARD by making them shoot down a nomination they gave him! Bush should be ridiculed for this choice. The problem is, so will the democrats be if they do not prevent her approval. Now they are in an uncomfortable position indeed.

This is a wedge between the dem senators and THEIR OWN voters. If they allow confirmation, they are guilty of that in the eyes of the dem voters, and we get our nominee approved. If they block confirmation, then the next nominee is a Jurassic Conservative (RARRR!) and the democrats have already used up their "reasonable" objections. They can't block the second one. The genius is that they are hamstrung on the FIRST one, too!
