Personally, I think the most important thing about this nomination is that the President's nominee replace O'Conner as soon as possible. On the issues coming up before the USSC this year, we KNOW that O'Conner will vote against the conservative position.
I hope she's on the bench within a month, and we can say Good-by to O'Conner.

I'm willing to wait a few months and lose these cases if it means for the next 40 years we have a conservative court.

Even under the best circumstances, Miers won't replace O'Connor until early next year.
