I wasn't even old enough to vote in 2000, and I still paid attention.

You should've picked up on the fact that Bush isn't Reagan when he first said "I'm a compassionate conservative."

Well son, I helped elect Ronald Reagan twice - while residing in the State of Texas. G.W. Bush's political friends in Texas were certainly Reaganites.

At least we can agree now - my hopes for a Texas Conservative in G.W. Bush were dashed when it became clear that he is a Country Club Republican.

My guess is the Constitution Party will pick up some support now.

Maybe Bush picked her out of loyalty but knows she will never be confirmed. Perhaps he has someone else in mind but puts this woman out there first to let the dems do their chewing up and spitting out. Then when she doesn't get confirmed, he picks his REAL choice: the dems will look like obstructionists if they go after his second choice. The prez once again beats the dems at their own game. He has kept this ladys friendship, gotten his real choice, and once again pulled one on the dems. Just a thought. (tin foil hat off)

Just like his father with the Souter pick the spin will be she is a good pick for conservatives. Bush senior called Souter a "home run" for the conservative right. As they say it may just be the right time to leave the party.

Oh please - So many of you "sky is falling" types are pathetic! I love Ronald Reagan as much as the next conservative - But don't give me this BS!

Reagan appointed SDO - One of the worst Justices on the Court (one with no principles!, worse then even a true Lib).

Reagan cut and ran out of Beirut when we should have took on terrorism head on -

GWB has been an extremely da*m fine CIC and a pretty da*m fine POTUS!(he hasn't raised taxes once...and Reagan gave us a big hike in 86'after his great cuts of 81,83).

It's also possible they had something on Roberts and Bush was forced to cut a deal...
