I don't know about Miers, but in Texas, like in many areas of Southern states, for years there were a lot of "closet Republicans." Politically and career-wise, it was difficult to be a Republican. Now there's some great leadership.

Now there's some great leadership.
Texas was so thoroughly 'yellow dog' Democrat for so many years that it was almost like telling people you had a venereal disease if you admitted you were Republican. Wish I could pin down the moment the "mo"mentum turned in favor of the Republicans.
After Katrina and Rita, I think we can say LA political system is crooked and has been for years. Texas politics has its share of crookedness but also has idiosyncracies that make the terms "Democrat" and "Republican" almost useless.
That's why I can't go either way on Miers if I just go by party affiliation. I really don't know anything about her but you can bet I've got to do some catchin' up!

The American Center for Law and Justice has endorsed her and said she will be a strict constructionist based on PERSONAL experience working with her on cases.
