Rapid Runway Repair Set
A standardized set of equipment and vehicles provided to selected main operating bases enabling the base civil engineering (BCE) forces to conduct rapid runway repair. The sets are graduated in a building block manner to provide the following crater-plus-small-repair capability: R-1 ==> The basic set of vehicles, equipment and materials to enable the BCE to form the rapid unway repair forces into three crater crews, each capable of repairing 1 crater in 4 hours. R2 ==> Equipment and vehicles, that, when added to R-1 set, provide the capability to form mixed crater repair teams (three teams for the runway minimum operating surface, three teams for the taxiway), each capable of repairing 1 crater in 4 hours, this, R-2 equates to capability for 6 craters in 6 hours. R-3 ==> Additional equipment and vehicles to provide the capability for the 6 crater repair teams to each repair 2 craters within 4 hours, this, R-3 equates to the capability for 12 craters in 4 hours. R-4 ==> Additional equipment and vehicles to provide the capability for the 6 crater repair teams to each repair 2 craters within the time period specified in the tactical air forces statement of operational need (TAFSON) for the post attack launch and recover thus, R-4 equates to 12 craters in TAFSON time. |

Today's Field Trip: USS Eisenhower
If you have a suggestion for a Field Trip - maybe a place where YOU have been stationed and would like to re-visit - PLEASE Freepmail it to starcmc!! Thanks!
Please remember: the Canteen is a place to honor and entertain our troops.
As such we attempt to keep it MOSTLY apolitical.
Thanks for playing and have a nice day! LOL!!!

Mission: Support The Troops Reminder!! |
|
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to honor and appreciate at least one member of the armed forces by some act of conscious premeditated behavior. |
|
The challenge: I am challenging each and every one of you here in the Canteen -- and elsewhere on FR for that matter -- to on or before October 7th, make it a point to go out of your way to thank a military person IN PERSON. I know some of you can't and this isn't a measuring stick for patriotism or anything else. Take it for what it is ~ someone who loves and appreciates our troops challenging other folks who love and appreciate the troops to go out there in their own neighborhoods and SHOW IT!! You don't have to spend a lot of money or time even. Whatever you decide to do, just DO it! This is your reminder!! On October 10th, we'll have a thread for you to post your stories (with or without photos) about your activities. Anyone who wants to can send me their stories in advance and I'll put them at the top of the thread. If you need help trying to find a recruiter near you, try the links below. Most of them have a place where you can put in your zip code and it tells you where the closest one to you is. I already have stories coming in!! |
|
|
So what do you say?? Mission accepted? Speak up and let us know you're up to the challenge!! |

Beware!
Beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked. 2 Peter 3:17
Bible In One Year: Ezra 1-4
|
Daily life is hazardous to your health. That's the thesis of Laura Lee's book 100 Most Dangerous Things In Everyday Life And What You Can Do About Them. It's a tongue-in-cheek look at the unnoticed threats in life, such as shopping carts (which annually cause 27,600 injuries in the US) and dishwashers (which harm more than 7,000 Americans and 1,300 Britons each year). One reason for writing this book, the author says, was "to poke fun at the culture of fear."
In contrast, Jesus Christ calls His followers to a courageous lifestyle of faith in which our goal is not to avoid personal harm but to pursue the mission of God in our world.
The apostle Peter vividly described the day of the Lord, which will bring the end of the earth as we know it (2 Peter 3:10). But instead of fainting with apprehension, Peter said we should be filled with anticipation (v.14). Then he warned of those who twist the Scriptures, and said, "Beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked" (v.17).
Proper concern helps protect us, but excessive alarm leaves us paralyzed. We should be most afraid of failing to live with complete confidence in God. David McCasland
Living for Jesus a life that is true,
Striving to please Him in all that I do;
Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me. Chisholm

Oct 3rd marks my "Anniversary"
in the Coast Guard Auxiliary
I have reported for "duty" to
Coast Guard Motor Lifeboat Station Coos Bay OR
at least one day,
every single week,
often times more,

I just wanted to let you know I met with the Flotilla Commander today
and it turns out that I have a few skills that they need and can utilize.
My application should be approved in about 10 days.
Also as of Sept 11 the Coast Guard itself is under the command of the Department of Defense.
While the Auxiliary is not part of the military, it can and does support military actions.
I'm just glad that this old rusty tin can sailor can help protect our country again.
