God bless that agent. On the job, alert, and effective, and still alive!

Absolutely. And when I think of our administration's attitude toward OPEN BORDERS and ILLEGAL MEXICANS, it makes me sick seeing these good men risk their lives...I can imaging what they are thinking when they realize the arrogant, elitist PRO-ILLEGAL-MEXICAN agenda that is in place...

IMO he was given two, too many chances.

For future reference....

When the suspect attempts to drive off with you hanging from his vehicle...REMOVE THE KEYS from the ignition once you shut down the engine.

With many cars, you can't remove the key unless the
tranny is in "Park".

It sounds like he was trying to. They not only were fighting for the keys but the gear shift as well.

For future reference: Do not stand on the running board of the vehicle. Do not reach into the vehicle.

Agent is fortunate to be alive after two serious and potentially fatal errors.

Paging Mister Darwin...

The agent should get a medal, but I just get this creepy feeling that instead he will be disciplined for failing to follow department policy.

Illegal aliens be warned. This could happen to you!

The driver tried to drive away but the agent, who was standing on the running board

Thank goodness the BP agent is alive. The officer could easily have died if the driver successfully drove off any of those three tries. But, I wonder if the officer was on the running board because he wanted to get the keys and thought the driver would get away.

I don't know what BP policy is on vehicle stops. But if you allow someone to grab your duty weapon, it seems to me that you have made a bad mistake somewhere. And I suspect that's what their top brass will focus on, rather than the fact that the agent kept an armed bad guy from shooting him and went home at the end of his shift.

An update on this incident. Oddly enough, this guy was a U.S. citizen.

Motorist fatally shot during Border Patrol stop identified
11:59 a.m. October 3, 2005

Excerpts - The motorist who was fatally shot early Sunday morning by a Border Patrol agent during a traffic stop has been identified as 29-year-old Jose Alba.

Police said Alba was shot by a 10-year patrol veteran after he grabbed the barrel of the agent's gun during a traffic stop.

Border Patrol agents found a gun in Alba's waistband and police said he was carrying handcuffs.

Alba, a U.S. citizen, had been staying in hotels in the San Ysidro area, said homicide Lt. Kevin Rooney. At the time of his death, he was being sought on a felony warrant on charges of burglary, auto theft and weapon possession.
