A University of Oklahoma student died in an explosion Saturday night near a stadium packed with 84,000 people. Although the investigation is not complete, the medical examiner believes Joel Henry Hinrichs III, 21, of Colorado Springs, Colo., perished in the blast, said Salvador Hernandez, special agent in charge of the FBI in Oklahoma .
Hinrichs died about 8 p.m. when an explosive detonated near the Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
According to the universitys Web site, Hinrichs was a junior in the college of engineering.
There were no reports of any other injuries and university officials have said the spectators at the game were in no danger at any time.
Initially, police believed there were two explosives -- the one that detonated and another that didn't -- but a later search found no other device.
University President David Boren said a police bomb squad did detonate an item found at the blast site to ensure that it was not an explosive.
John Allen Muhammed aka a disgruntled ex army soldier.

Dont laugh , I was on the other thread concerning this explosion since last nigh t. I was bashed left and right for saying I didnt think it was a botched terrorist attack. There was little info and facts about the case yet tons of posters were ready to bomb Mecca . I was really bashed badly for wanting to hear the facts. Some were suggesting a HUGE media plot to squash the REAL info of this case .
Did you ask some obvious questions - like what they think made him do this? Something about his life and was he depressed, etc? Was he a loner - who did he hang out with?
From his writings, the beltway sniper was more influenced by racist hatred and anger at the government from his time in the military. He was not an "islamic terrorist" in the same way as one trained in an afghan camp and part of an organized plot.
Something odd going on with JesseP. He was vehemently on both sides of this thing then got banned.
Thanks for letting me know! Wonder what he did.
Maybe you should just mind your own business. This is a public forum and I am here (as are you) at Jim Rob's pleasure. Some people do not run their mouths off on things that are not addressed to them.
"One poster was asked straight out, "what would it take to convince you the kid wasn't muslim and this wasn't ism?" The guy basically said nothing would convince him."
Saw many similar things. By the way, on your next post correcting spelling, let's just blame the spellcheckers. They're all plotting against the human race.
I was writing some public relations copy one day and checked bnai brith. Spell checker said it was Beany Breath. Scary.
Boren and the local police had to at least consider the possibility that this incident was part of something bigger or they wouldn't have brought in the FBI; local and state officials would have handled with maybe input from the ATF.
the media coverage portion of the argument remains totally true - there has been none.
get used to it. there's a lot of topics that elicit strange irrational posts. TROP, Bush, borders, drug war, police, dogs, oh man - almost everything now that I think about it.
Would that be such a stretch?
I think it's pretty much a non story on a national level.I hardly believe that all news agencys could have been quieted on every detail since last night .
There would be less tinfoiling from the public, FReepers etc. if the media would be straight with us. Second guessing becomes second nature when the spin, lies and so forth are consistently applied as thick as they are and searching for the truth becomes a Herculean task.
The same goes for the government when it obfuscates and buries facts. Lose trust and it's hard to not believe the worst. Clinton drove that lesson home but good.
That said, I'm glad it doesn't appear to be an actual Islamofascist attack.
Thanks for the ping Oxen.
I mistrust the MSM as much as the next Freeper. I think if it was a terrorist attempt they would have used it , spun it and made it Bush's fault somehow , said that he cant protect us here at home blah blah blah . I doubt all news outlets could keep an attempted terrorist attack quiet for too long.
There is some discussion on the other thread. He comes up with this call to the fraternity, but was saying he "sees through" the cover-up. I don't know, the fraternity call story seemed too perfectly timed. Then he started a thread about why the mods didn't listen to him and got zotted. I don't know what's going on but I trust the mods.
There's a better sense of humor on this thread, that's for sure!
and I turn on FNC right now - and Beth Holloway is on. I cannot take this anymore.
