A University of Oklahoma student died in an explosion Saturday night near a stadium packed with 84,000 people. Although the investigation is not complete, the medical examiner believes Joel Henry Hinrichs III, 21, of Colorado Springs, Colo., perished in the blast, said Salvador Hernandez, special agent in charge of the FBI in Oklahoma .
Hinrichs died about 8 p.m. when an explosive detonated near the Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
According to the universitys Web site, Hinrichs was a junior in the college of engineering.
There were no reports of any other injuries and university officials have said the spectators at the game were in no danger at any time.
Initially, police believed there were two explosives -- the one that detonated and another that didn't -- but a later search found no other device.
University President David Boren said a police bomb squad did detonate an item found at the blast site to ensure that it was not an explosive.
So, if this kid turns out to be a Catholic, you still consider it terrorism?
What if he was, as the story says, mentally disturbed?
Getting enough exercise???
Jumping to conclusions is really good for your heart
"Good grief! There's a 21 yr old student dead--he apparently suffered from mental illness of some sort--and somehow, you tie him in with Muslims?"
You ought to read the other thread, too. And WE think the Dems have a bunch of nuts running around under THEIR tinfoil hats?
All the theories ranging from immediate official and press cover up and all the usual suspect theories. The only thing I didn't read was that it was space aliens who were converging on one of the ancient Indian burial grounds on the OU campus to take home the holy dead.
I'd say we need to get our own house in order to take on the Dems, but someone's probably already convinced I'm one of the space aliens.
After going up Pike's Peak several years back, two days after 4 women from Wichita (I'm in Wichita) drove OFF Pike's Peak, I would be glad to be in the flatlands.
It was so damn scary going up (I hid in the floorboard) and I would peak up and look out every now and then, but I WAS THANKING GOD there was a cloud enveloping the mountain, so you couldn't see over the edge into eternity. When we came down it started raining and water was pouring down the road with us. I will never go to the mountains again for vacation, my heart just can't take it. LOL I'd rather vacation in Kansas, maybe go gamble in KC or something. Whew!!! There's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home, toto
"So, if this kid turns out to be a Catholic, you still consider it terrorism?"
yes.
You're a bit paranoid.
You still don't get it. That kid could've voiced his support for Dale Earnhardt, but it doesn't make Earnhardt responsible for what happened. Now, if the kid trained at a madrassah in Pakistan, that's a different story.
Have you ever been an undergraduate in an engineering program? How does 24 credits a semester sound?

GtG
The kid in Tampa had severe mental problems and was on several different kinds of medication. IIRC, his mother is now suing one drug company saying that their drug caused him to become suicidal.
On Airliners.net, the crash was big news as the kid had been a member.

Actually my all-time favorite thread of that nature (that was several thousand posts) was the "three Arab terrorists are locked in an airliner bathroom shaving their entire bodies!" that happened in Arkansas...that was a couple years ago, I think.
Anyway, it turned out to be two Indian Gas station owners on their way to a convention of Gas station owners in Las Vegas. One of the guys decided to shave in the bathroom of the airplane before landing, and he took his shirt off to not get shaving cream on it; a flight attendant decided he was in there for too long and barged in, she freaked, started screaming at him, he gave her lip back, his friend got involved, and then some poor hispanic guy who didn't do anything and just happened to be sitting across from where they were got picked up merely for looking middle eastern. But the story as told got completely out of hand and people clung to believing the initial story.
Then when it really is ism who will listen? Didn't they read Peter and the Wolf in school?! Tsk Tsk.
"Anyone know if this Hinrichs fellow was a Muslim? Possibly a convert?"
Maybe, just maybe, he was a regular, garden variety, homegrown nutbar. Then again.
One poster was asked straight out, "what would it take to convince you the kid wasn't muslim and this wasn't ism?" The guy basically said nothing would convince him.
And stop acting as tho Boren is in cover up mode.
Some responsible people like to wait for FACTS before they run their mouths off.
That was a good one. Now, if only those Indian gas-station owners had been gay . . . .
Impossible! That NEVER happens here!
/sarcasm
That was "terrorism". My net nanny is censoring me.
Put the word extremist in there at an appropriate place and the answer is yes. My comment was mostly geared towards how the media refused to mention the Beltway Snipers' Islamic connections. Of course this being the typed word makes subtle contextual nuances tough to express in a short pithy comment.
Thanks for posting. Interesting thread.
