Vets Group Declares War on Protesters (American Legion starts letter writing campaign)

More bad news for the "support-the-troops-but-oppose-the-war" crowd.

On Friday the American Legion said they're declaring war on anti-war protesters, and they're starting a letter-writing campaign from soldiers fighting in Iraq who want to get their side of the story out.

"America needs to hear the good news firsthand from those who are fighting the war in Iraq and Afghanistan," said Legion National Commander Tom Bock in a press release excerpted by the liberal web site Raw Story.

"It's about time that the American public hears about the positive things our soldiers, sailors, Marines, airmen and coastguardsmen are doing for our country and for the Afghani and Iraqi people."

The letters will be posted Legion's web site, "Letters to America from the Front."

The 2.7 million member veterans group has declared war on "public protests" and "media events" that undermine U.S. troops, Bock noted.

"The American Legion will stand against anyone and any group that would demoralize our troops, or worse, endanger their lives by encouraging terrorists to continue their cowardly attacks against freedom-loving peoples," Thomas Cadmus, another national commander, recently told Legion delegates.

The American Legion's rank and file voted to use any means necessary to "ensure the united backing of the American people to support our troops and the global war on terrorism."

Wonderful news!

This is good news!!!

I hope that it helps...

Everytime I hear someone like George Stephanopolous say (like he did this morning)...that "the American people are against the war...and want to see the troops brought home ASAP"....I just want to scream, because he is making assumptions based on biased polls and media reporting.

Also, we know that Americans DO want to the troops to come home, but NOT before the mission is finished...and that could take a decade. Most of us understand this, and those that are beating their chests to bring the troops home now, are endangering the US as much as a terrorist just sitting here and biding his time...

I agree that it is good news to hear another group stand up to the anti-war protestors but I think our men and women fighting abroad have enough on their hands without having to worry about writing a letter to be published to defend/prove that what they are doing.

As supporters of our troops, it is OUR job to stand up to the anti-war protestors and defend our troops against their onslaught. Not stand behind the troops saying..."Yeah...what he said!"

Hopefully, I misunderstood the article.

Also, we know that Americans [Iraqis] DO want to the troops to come home [leave] but NOT before the mission is finished...and that could take a decade.

Anything else is suicidal.

There was a very good segment on CSPAN this morning = an expert on present day conditions in Iraq, Michael Rubin of the American Enterprise Institute.

I saw George's interview and, unless there's a transcript to the contrary, I doubt your quote is accurate either in verbatim or in context.
