WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Small amounts of a bacteria that causes "rabbit fever" were found on Washington's National Mall last weekend as thousands of protesters marched against the Iraq War, U.S. health authorities said on Saturday.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said several government environmental air monitors in the Mall area detected low levels of Francisella tularensis bacteria that cause Tularemia, commonly known as rabbit fever, on September 24-25.

That was my first thought, dsc---was someone there with the purpose of starting an epidemic? But--if that were the case, it wouldn't make sense for them to release it on their own crowd.

What you've got here is a simple case of Rove/Halliburton exterminating the lefties. After blowing up the levee, the duo paired up again to rid the U.S. of Sheehan and her ilk. Through the clever, insidious use of rabbit fever, they intend to destroy leftism where ever filthy people gather. They released small amounts of the contagion, but before they were able to deploy a lethal dose, they were overcome by B.O., swooned, and were carried away by Delta Force personnel.

Usually contacted while cleaning animals prior to cooking them. Watch from a distance and carefully (with a shovel) bury road kill and you will be OK.

I'm thinking most American's think we have a very smart, well organized, government who are on top of everything when, in actuality it is all based on smoke and mirrors to give a false sense of security.

I think it's a mutation of the infamous cat scratch fever.

If there are squirrels all over DC, shouldn't sensors pick up on it more frequently? I think the Hippies tracked it in.

I leave roadkill for the city crew to deal with. That's what taxes are for : )

Yeah, you're right. With these throwbacks the `road-apples' don't fall very far from the trees.
There's this old burn-out who sells tye-died t-shirts outside the student center here, about 60, Teddy Kennedy build.
The students won't stand down-wind of him.

Actually yes, there is a "cat-scratch" disease. But I was making a joke about the Ted Nugent song.

True, but they are deploying the new very sensitive PCR devices and it hasn't rained in DC for more than a month (a lot of dust becoming airborne). I haven't seen how many samples were positive, but if it were a deliberate release it should be very high levels in many samples.

I don't worry about this stuff too much, here in NM we have actual plague (Black Plague) carrying rodents. There's usually a human case every year or so.

If you are hunting rabbits, it is best to watch them a while before shooting. If they stagger around like they are drunk or disoriented, they may have tularemia. They contract it by eating their own poop, which can be contaminated by ground contact. Pigs contract it frequently as well.

Ted Nugent is probably the first thing most people think of when they see Cat Scratch Fever : )
