Nissan unveils car with cabin revolving 360 degrees
Fri Sep 30, 9:34 AM ET
Japanese carmaker Nissan unveiled a car of the future which only goes forward -- with a cabin able to revolve 360 degrees, eliminating the need to reverse.
The three-seater electric concept car, nicknamed Pivo, will be put on display at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show to be held in Chiba, outside Tokyo, from October 22 to November 6, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. said in a statement.
Pivo, 2.7 meters long, is shaped like an egg on a skateboard.
The compact car can move at 80 kilometers (50 miles) per hour, powered by a compact, high-performance lithium-ion battery, resulting in zero emissions.
Its view monitor reduces blind spots by displaying the outside surroundings on screens mounted on the inside of the car's pillars located on either side of the windshield, the statement said.
A dash-mounted infrared commander allows the driver to operate the navigation and stereo systems with simple finger movements without letting go of the steering wheel.

It takes getting used to. To get out of the driveway - rotate the cabin around and drive forward. Cool!

Great post, Tiger- this stuff serves as a natural warning that there are too many damn design engineers on the payroll!

The compact car can move at 80 kilometers (50 miles) per hour, powered by a compact, high-performance lithium-ion battery, resulting in zero emissions. Sure, no tailpipe emissions, but the energy has to come from somewhere. In Japan, it's likely either nuke or fossil fuel.

No blind spots with this car. You get to have a literal bird's eye view of your entire surroundings.

Decent speed. I see this as the perfect in-town car. One can save the hybrid or gasoline-powered car for the longer trips.

Finally! They have solved the problem of how to moon someone while driving.

Its a two-seater electric roadster. No place for children and I don't see where the storage space is but its a great couples car.
