Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.7 Released

Thursday September 29th, 2005

Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.7 is now available for download. Amongst other changes, this minor release includes fixes for a return receipt regression introduced in version 1.0.2 (bug 289091) and the Linux command line URL parsing security flaw.

Thunderbird 1.0.7 can be downloaded from the Thunderbird product page or the Thunderbird 1.0.7 directory on ftp.mozilla.org. Refer to the Thunderbird 1.0.7 Release Notes for more information. We expect details of the security fixes in this release to be added to the Mozilla Foundation's list of known security vulnerabilities soon.

This is a critical update for users of the Thunderbird email program, mainly because of a bug that allows for successful Phishing. Also lots of minor bugfixes.

I have been using TB 1.5 Beta 1 and enjoying it. Do you know if the 1.7 is a newer version than the Beta I have been using?

That isn't being done by Mozilla.

Mozilla mirrors (all versions of all Mozilla software). Just pick one:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/

And here you'll find the releases for Firefox 1.07 - all free:

I have no idea where you got to that URL from, but both Firefox and Thunderbird are free for download. Could you give me a link for where to got to that page from? I'd like to alert the mozilla folks about it.

I'm not sure at all about that. I've not been running the betas recently. I used to download nightly builds, but haven't had the time to do thorough testing for the build, so I've been running the stable branches of FF and TB.

I'm pretty sure that the FF equivalent to this TB release (1.0.7) is a part of the stable branch that is very different from the Beta branch (codenamed DeerPark), so I'd not be suprised if the Beta branch of TB was similarly different.

I don't know who those people are, or why they think you should pay them for FF. I'd strongly suggest you get your download from Mozilla.org instead. They accept donations as well but don't require it to download the software. Also I'd strongly suggest you not give your email address to that 'freedownloadhq.com' site unless you have a enough of a history with them to know what they are about.

Just got it , thanks.

I had firefox already but wasn't sure if it was the latest version (1.07) How can I know what version I have? The desk top icon stayed the same when I down loaded 1.07.

I got that original URL from Google by the way.

You are at the wrong download site. It's free here: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

To check your version ID, go to "Help", "About Mozilla Firefox"

While you're at it type "about:mozilla" in your URL bar. You might also try "about:kitchensink" as well :-)

I did that and it says I have 1.07 but checking properties in my program files for firefox it says it was created Dec 31st 2004.

When down loading the newer version does it replace the older one or are both versions still in my comp?

If your version is correct, you should be good to go. Don't know why the creation date is that old. Weird. I assume you're running windows. Can't ever tell what's going on with stuff on windows. As far as running multiple versions, I belive both FF and TB are set up at the current time to replace any existing installation.

Because I run Linux, that gives me a bit more flexibility about such things, and I have both FF and TB install with a directory name that matches the version number, then I change a symbolic link that points to the version I want to use. This makes it easy for me to back out to a previous version if I ever need to do that. I don't know if that is even possible with windows.
