It's probably very beautiful there, but I don't understand why people continue to go to Bali considering the danger.
ST. JOHN'S, N.L. (CP) - Two American planes - a passenger jet and a military transport - made separate emergency landings in Newfoundland on Saturday.
A Continental Airlines Boeing 767, en route from Newark, N.J., to Paris with 178 people on board, landed in Gander shortly before 8 a.m. local time.
Airport officials said crew reported low oil pressure in one of the engines. The airliner landed safely with one engine idling.
Officials said the plane was waiting for a spare part late Saturday afternoon and was expected to be on its way by evening.
Meanwhile, a U.S. air force plane made an emergency landing in St. John's after a false alarm prompted the crew to shut down one of the aircraft's four engines.
The C-130 Hercules was en route from Illinois on a transatlantic flight to the Middle East and had already been scheduled to touch down in St. John's on a maintenance stop.
The Hercules, with 26 people on board, landed without incident Saturday afternoon, said airport spokesman Kelly Jamieson.
"It turns out there was no immediate fire, so they shut the engine down as a precaution," Jamieson said Saturday.
"These things are quite common, actually. It's really not that serious a problem."
Jamieson said the plane would leave as soon as the crew found what caused the false alarm and fixed the problem.
