Only thing in season right now are squirrel and dove. Shotguns used for both so I can see your point.
Still, like a good friend of mine says:

I start seeing those type weapons in pickup trucks, I'm staying home.

So, with that in mind, it behooves one to carry a serious caliber when out and about. Serious guns...for serious times.
