About 8,000 revelers gathered Saturday on the Boston Common to try to break the Guinness Book of World Records' listing for the largest display of lit jack-o'-lanterns. Among them was Thomas Brato, 33, who police said had a different kind of firework in mind.
Brato placed a couple of bags of powder and some wiring inside one of the carved-out gourds, police said. As he walked away into a crowd, he told a nearby firefighter to ''have fun in eternity," police said

Bomb squad disables device at courthouseA suspicious package that contained what authorities believe was a bomb was seen in the mail at the U.S. Courthouse yesterday and handled by the Richmond police bomb squad.
U.S. Postal Inspector D.E. Wood said the return address indicated the package came from a federal prison. "We believe it's an actual device," Wood said.
(...)Authorities said black powder found in the package will be analyzed to be sure that it is an explosive. Courthouse employees said they were told the package contained wires, a battery, a switch, a light bulb and nails.

Police: Bomb threat made on Old Main 10/24/05 - Penn State
Police are investigating a bomb threat received by a staff member at about 10 a.m. Friday at Old Main, Penn State University Police said.
University police Assistant Director Tyrone Parham said the building was evacuated while police officers used a bomb detection dog to search for explosives. Old Main remained open for business throughout the rest of the day.

Anna Markle, of North Syracuse, pleaded guilty to one of four counts of first-degree falsely reporting an incident in a plea agreement with prosecutors. She could have received a maximum prison term of up to four years.
