The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

WASHINGTON -- The United States could be attacked by "home grown" Islamist terror groups, the FBI's chief has warned.

FBI Director Robert Mueller told the London Financial Times newspaper in an interview published Thursday that the United States could face attacks from "home-grown terrorism" very similar to the July 7 bombings in London that killed 52 people and wounded another 700, Mueller said.

When asked if the United States could face such attacks from "home-grown groups", Mueller answered emphatically: "Absolutely, it could," the Financial Times said.

I'm watching the tunnel closures on FOX right now. That would be a major choke point for the economy of the area, but not as bad as irradiating the mouth of the Mississippi River. Still the Jihadis have obviously done some research on our weaknesses and have threatened priority targets.

You mention that they won't attack if they think we're prepared. Well, maybe. I think it's an accurate statement to say that a specific attack may be diverted to a secondary or tertiary target based on perceptions that a main force attack on a high value target could be stopped. They won't care if they die as 911 shows, just so long as their mission is accomplished. So they may suddenly divert to another target. We just cannot cover them all and there are too many high value targets to cover all of them.

It is flat out going to happen.

This sort of reminds me of something a buddy once told me when he finished the Infantry Mortar Platoon Officers Course (IMPOC) about how a mortar attack can be used to demoralize enemy forces. You send three rounds towards a reinforced enemy position, one that is dug in deep. Like a bunker. So you set the first fuse for an airburst, which causes no damage and makes them laugh and feel over confident. The next round has an impact detonator and that shakes them up and causes some worry....maybe they get on the radio and tell their buddies or superiors how that last round made the dust settle onto them....and while they're talking the third round lands with the proximity delay fuse and it punches down into the bunker....and KA-BOOM! Static in the air.....Word gets around....

Trailer Stolen From Boonville Business (NY)

State police are investigating the theft of a snowmobile trailer at a business in Boonville over the weekend.

The theft occurred at North/South Connection on State Route 12 in Boonville over the weekend. The trailer is a brand new "Blizzard" brand 7’ X 22’ enclosed box trailer designed to hold four snowmobiles. The trailer was pewter colored and has a diamond plated aluminum kick plate on the door.

State police are seeking any information from anyone who may have seen the large trailer being hauled away on Saturday evening or Sunday morning in the vicinity of Route 12. If anyone has any information relative the theft they can contact SP Marcy BCI at 736-8802.

Over seas tip, that 6 egyptians were coming here to blow up the tunnel, bomb materials were coming in.

Several have been arrested.

It must be a "for real threat", the real question being that they may have worked with local terrorists and have a "if something happens, you do it"!!!!!!

You're right we cannot assume that they won't attack if they think we are prepared. I also don't think we can assume that they won't attack if we've been forewarned.

Take a look at the article: "Terror Attacks: Advance Knowledge Does Not Always Result in Prevention" on my website. It's long so I won't post the entire thing here but basically it takes a look at Nalchik. The Russians had warning of that attack and had even publicized that it had been averted several days before the real attack occured.
