Keep your shoulder in motion.

People, especially older people, who stop moving their shoulder because it hurts often end up with adhesions (frozen shoulder) and greatly reduced range of motion requiring tedious rehabilitation.

Believe me, I have been doing my exercises for the time they said to. I even showed my family doctor today raising my arm above my head. I keep it moving when I am doing something that requires it. I learned to do what this doctor said to do when hubby had TKR surgery the day after the election last year. My mil has a friend who had the same kind of surgery but she did not do any exercises and now she can not lift her arm. What a shame that the doctor did not tell her to do these exercises. I am still a little sore but it is nothing compared to what it was weeks ago. Mopping the floor really hurt the first time I did that! Chores have to be done, though. It even hurt to do my counted cross stitch the first few times I tried it.
