I completely agree with you. Our society as a whole should frown on drug use because, by and large, it is detrimental to one's health and character.

However, I have yet to see anyone seriously get on this website and advocate drug use of any kind. What we normally see in these drug war threads is the objection by a great many conservative people to the heavy-handed and blatantly unconstitutional tactics used to enforce anti-drug sentiments. Regardless of the intentions behind them, illegal actions by our government should not be tolerated by anyone who calls himself conservative.

What many fail to see here is that objecting to the unconstitutional lawsand tactics used in the federal drug war is not the same thing as advocating drug sue. Just because I am against allowing federal agents to kick in citizens' doors in the middle of the night or freezing people's assets without due process doesn't mean that I'd like to see our kids getting stoned in the playground. It just means that I think using the federal government, in direct violation of the limits placed upon it by the US Constitution, to prevent personal vices is to trash every ideal upon which this country was founded. Furthermore, if we allow the federal government this much power for the drug war, what is to stop them from exercising that same power for any reason they see fit?

We are either a Constitutional government or not. If you want to federally ban drugs and give the federal government the power to enforce that ban, then get an amendment in place as they did for alcohol. Otherwise, regardless of your intentions, you are merely advocating the abolition of COnstitutional government in the US.

We are that, and in addition we still manage to have our brains as well to work against horrible things that bring the whole country down.
