[Dole speaks to jihad mom about war]

RALEIGH, N.C. -- U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole and peace mom Cindy Sheehan met privately to discuss the war in Iraq and parted as divided in their views as ever.

"Some of the inflammatory statements that have been made by Ms. Sheehan and her political organization undermine the overall War on Terror and are extremely detrimental to our men and women in uniform in harm's way," Dole, R-N.C., said in a statement after the 10-minute private meeting on Thursday.

Dole, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, was "a gentle lady," and "a warmonger," Sheehan said. She used the same epithet to describe Sen. John McCain, a Vietnam veteran who has supported the war in Iraq, after a meeting with him Wednesday.

"She just expounded on the talking points of the Republican Party," Sheehan said after visiting Dole's office. "She's 100 percent on board with the war and I'm 100 percent against the war."

Dole told The Charlotte Observer that she began by expressing her sympathy for the loss of Sheehan's son, Casey, a soldier who was killed in Iraq.

But Dole said she also told Sheehan that her "name-calling of the president and discrediting the war -- that's not helpful, that kind of language It's harmful for the morale of the troops."

Sheehan's conference with Dole was one of several scheduled this week as part of her campaign to persuade members of Congress to explain the reasons for the war. She spoke before a massive anti-war rally Saturday on the National Mall and was arrested Monday demonstrating in front of the White House.

Dole said she told Sheehan about Saddam Hussein's record in Iraq of raping and gassing his own people, reminded her that he had ignored multiple United Nations resolutions. Dole said that Iraq had become a breeding ground for terrorists, so it was necessary to fight the war.

Sheehan said Saddam bought the weapons he used on his own people in the 1980s after U.S. aid allowed Iraq to buy arms instead of food.

Dole said she believed she answered all of Sheehan's questions.

"She stays on the Republican message and gave the president's key talking points (and) she did not answer one question that I asked," Sheehan told the Winston-Salem Journal.

Why do these stupid politicians waste their time?

You got me. All they do is delay Cindy's inevitable de-legitimization.

Well at least talking points have actual points, unlike Cindy.....

I ran into a couple of young people in the local Blockbuster last night as they were loudly verbalizing insults about Prez Bush, while lauding the movies "Fahrenheit 911" and "Bowling for Columbine." I am so sick of hearing this stuff and piped right up and said I wouldn't put a penny into that creep Michael Moore's pocket. I said he was so anti-American, he should go and live in Iraq. They started saying "Bush should go to Iraq" and I told them Bush isn't bashing America. I also told them to do their research on what a hypocrite Moore is - his taxes and so on.... they shut right up after that. They were just regurgitating the usual propaganda with no actual substance or facts in their own repertoire to back up their opinions! I told the kids in the Blockbuster store that I was getting sick and tired of all the American bashing. It felt good!

"She just expounded on the talking points of the Republican Party,"

She not anti-war. She's anti-Republican. Just a sock puppet of the Democratic National Party.

She has every right to be obtuse and to put our troops stationed in Iraq in harm's way. That's the negative side-effect of a "free speech" democracy. And I have as much right as her to label her a "jihad mom", which she is.

Nobody here is saying anything about her son. Her son is a HERO who volunteered TWICE to goto Iraq.

Cindy Sheehan is a moonbat nutjob who supports our enemies.

Now go back to the DUmp.

Her son went to war and died for THIS COUNTRY, and she has no right to question its leadership?

So only she has the right to free speech? What if someone on this board had a son who died? What do we do then flip a coin? Is the winner the person who has the most amount of family tied to the war?

I found Senator Dole's having met with Sheehan to be quite offensive.

I called her office in Raleigh, NC. I explained my situation, that I am a registered voter in NC, Republican, that I did support Senator Dole in the year of her election, and that I am also the wife of an 82nd ABN infantryman who has been to Iraq twice. I cited that I understand Sheehan's situation, and I also understand the desire of many Republican politicians to appear above the dirty, partisan politics of the Democrats.

However, I also cited Sheehan's association with groups such as Code Pink and ANSWER, and how I found her meeting with Sheehan to be highly offensive to NC's military members and their families. And I also stated that, while I never have voted for a Democrat and would not be likely to do so anytime in the near future, her meeting with Sheehan was not going to energize me in getting myself to the ballot box when she runs for re-election.

And honestly, even if Dole is trying to look "bipartisan," it's not going to help her one bit. Anyone who actually buys Sheehan's bilge at this point is a leftist who is going to vote against her, regardless of who is her opponent. So all that she's really accomplishing is the alienation of her base.

I'm not in favor of running female candidates (I don't care about the feminist reaction to this!), but I am wondering if there has been any recent effort to draft Mrs. Dole for a 2008 presidential bid.

Her son went to war and died for THIS COUNTRY, and she has no right to question its leadership?

She has every right to question the war. But why does she need to do it by attributing the ugliest of motives to other people, using tired boilerplate about a war for oil and using the most vile of name-calling? Do you approve of her calling the president a "terrorist," calling the real terrorists "freedom fighters" calling John McCain and Elizabeth Dole "warmongers," and calling New Orleans "occupied" because US troops are being used to curb lawlessness there?? Do you approve of her calling mothers who support the liberation effort in Iraq "the murder and mayhem moms?" Do you approve of her demands for the impeachment of the president absent of any crimes?? Do you consider this partisan nonsense in any way constructive?? Does it really accomplish anything other than ripping apart this nation and demoralizing our soldiers abroad?

You call us "simplistic" but cannot see the simple-minded nature of how you view our opposition to Sheehan?? Our problem with her is not her opposition to the war, but the way she has gone about opposing the war which has been totally divisive, ugly and downright seditious. The real mean-spirited way she has gone about this divisiveness has certainly given hope to our enemies that if they just run up the body count in Iraq, they can cause a few more Cindy Sheehan's to pop up and demoralize the country into retreat just like the vocal anti-war left did in Vietnam. What do you think will happen to swell Al Qaeda's confidence and their ranks if people like Sheehan succeed in their desire to force us into retreat in Iraq?? Can you not see that whether aware of it or not, she is serving the enemy's interests in Iraq and undermining this country in its efforts to take apart terrorism and get at the people who killed 3000 within our borders on 9-11 and would do so again if handed a victory in Iraq?

If you don't think our enemies take note of this kind of divisiveness, then I would maintain the label of "simplistic" points right back at you.

Some decent liberals have opposed the war effort and/or the way it's being fought in a CONSTRUCTIVE manner and I certainly haven't had a problem with that nor do I think most of us conservatives have had a problem with it. At the same time they're responsible in their opposition and most of the more mature and adult opponents to the war on the Democratic/liberal side at least recognize it would be totally irresponsible and mistaken to pull out of Iraq immediately like the dim-witted Sheehan would have us do. It's not the opposition to the war we have a problem with but the SHRILLNESS of some in mounting that opposition.

Constructive criticism is welcome. But Cindy Sheehan's hysterically extreme and partisan hatefulness has been anything but. It has been DESTRUCTIVE criticism. THAT is what we take issue with.

This isn't directly related, but I don't know how to make a posting and I had to talk about it: "Peter Jennings left a fortune worth more than $50 million to his wife and two children, according to the ABC News anchor's will, the (New York) Daily News has learned."

It seems it pays to be a traitor, unless you factor in where he is now, because he doesn't have a cent there.

"What's amazing about some of the narrow-minded and intellectually bankrupt comments on this board is that many of you firmly believe what you say. It seems that the statists that make up this board are resolved in their shallow convictions. Jihad Mom? Are you serious? Why do these stupid politicians waste their time?

I think it's good that they meet with her. The public knows McCain and Elizabeth Dole. For Sheehan to characterize them as "warmongers" continues to make her look like a crazed anti-war zealot, and discredits her further.

Why do these Senators even give this whack job the time of day?

Because Cindy's doing a bang-up job of turning people off - but she's too stupid to realize that.
