From the reports I read, he was squirrel hunting with a 22. You have to sight your target and take careful aim to get any game. This was no accident. Especially multiple shots.

IMHO this bastard should be tied to the tree and left to die on his own.

Yeh--I forgot about bear season. But if the kid was shot with a .22, Schroeder sure wasn't bear hunting.
