WASHINGTON -- After nearly three months behind bars, New York Times reporter Judith Miller was released from a federal prison Thursday after agreeing to testify in the investigation into the disclosure of the identity of a covert CIA officer, two people familiar with the case said.
Miller left the federal detention center in Alexandria, Va., after reaching an agreement with Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald. Legal sources said she would appear before a grand jury investigating the case Friday morning. The sources spoke on condition of anonymity because of the secrecy of the grand jury proceedings.
The sources said Miller agreed to testify after securing an unconditional release from Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, to testify about any discussions they had involving CIA officer Valerie Plame.

The DEMs and media falsely charged Rove and others in a media blitz. That is hardly "firing blanks," just because the projectiles don't hit the targets directly.
It would be a wash, in the public mind, whereas the Dems wanted it to destroy an administration.
This story, as with the forged TANG memos, "the crowd booed an Bush did nothing," Sheehan, the performance of Louisian disaster relief, and many many others, will be dropped into the memory hole to make room for the next lie.
The real "story" is the chronic lie - and you are right, to the public, it is "a wash."
Not to me. I'm so confused, nothing makes "sense" to me. Well, I think, for some reason, Miller did not want to testify. She conviently used the excuse that she didn't think she had Livvy's waiver, that his blanket waiver didn't apply to her. Remember Matt Cooper did that same dance, but he cleared it up before he went to jail. Why didn't Miller do the same? The judge in the case back in July told her that her source's waiver did allow her to testify, that's verified in one of the papers today. I think Miller wanted to do the jailed journalist schtick. It surely made her famous, didn't it?
If it turns out Miller spent all this time in jail because her lawyer Floyd Abrams advised her badly, that in itself will be a triumpth for our legal justice system! Abrams needs to be taken down a peg or two.
Remember Cooper told two different stories back then
Also .. Cooper never talked about what he said to the GJ
Miller and Cooper and everyone else were given a release long ago by Rove and Libby, so that excuse doesn't fly
IMO, Miller was covering for some else ... but Miller is also not liking jail time and I'm guessing doesn't want to spend any more time in jail
Pete Williams predicted this morning on Imus, that Judith Miller will have something to say to the press after she testifies this morning. Precious little I'm thinking. She'll give herself an exclusive on anything that really matters.
Miller can say whatever in public ... but what counts is what she says to the Grand Jury ... because then she in under oath
Go back and read jimbo's post on#79...very interesting..
???? ... I'm confused, what did I miss?
The fact the paper is lying???
It seems jimbo has some inside info stating that Fitzgerald gave Miller a choice of testifying today or being indicted Monday...and that the NYT is doing nothing but spinning this story.....
Miller's statements are nonsense - don't try to make sense of them. She's claiming to have the principle of not divulging confidential sources (no matter what), but her principle can withstand 85 days in jail, and no more, before it is compromised.
And now she is saying she hasn't compromised her principle, when in fact she has.
The law has principles too, one of which aims to get to the bottom of allegations of criminal conduct. And the law has the tool of contempt, useful at times to compel testimony. Some witnesses do hold the principle of confidentiality in higher regard than prosecuting the law. Judith Miller is not such a person.
Walkingfeather would have responded to this post but he woke up all dead this morning....apparent cause??? He dreamed of a Hillary Clinton indictment.
I heard a Fox News radio headline after posting. The deal that was cut is that other sources won't have to be revealed.
Who is being protected????
Would be interesting to peruse the visitors log.
What I find curious is that a waiver was granted by Libby approximately one year ago, and it sounds like she's claiming show FINALLY has a waive? And of course, the media won't report this correctly.
They are so rotten, so dirty, so despicable, so hateful, so evil. There is no low to which they will stoop. I personally can't stand to even listen and watch anymore as they proceed to tear down and to destroy any vestige of decency, honor, righteousness, etc. of what's left of our once great republic.
The timing is not suspicious in my opinion. The Dems make baseless charges against Frist and Delay and now they will crow about Scooter Libby and Dick Cheney's office. It is all part of their vicious campaign painting the Republicans as the party and "culture of corruption". Thank goodness there's the 'Net and Talk Radio. Otherwise the Hive would buzz without response.
Caught just a snippet of C-Span, Matt Cooper saying, yes he did visit Judith Miller in jail.
Oh really??
Interesting ... I wonder what they talked about?
People totally forgot about her and she was worried she would rot in jail.
That would be the best kept secret because I haven't heard anything of her being under a GJ investigation
Plus .. it will never happen
