I did a quick check and it appears the GOP hasn't confirmed a nominee for SCOTUS since Scalia in 1986! They lost control of the Senate that year. There hasn't been a new member of the high court since August 1994.

I believe O'Connor was confirmed by a Republican Senate.

She was appointed in either 1981 or 1982.

And the Republicans gained the Senate when Reagan won in 1980 then lost it in 1986.
