I was so glad to be contacted by a professional acquaintance that we know and trust about a private relief effort that took place immediately after the hurricane. Our acquaintance volunteered to coordinate the financial aspect and help put out the word.
Last night at dinner we learned that the effort has taken $26,000 in emergency relief supplies to rural MS areas, with a 96% effectiveness rate. (Only 4% went to admin costs) I'd like to see moveon, the Red Cross etc. try to claim they can come anywhere near that efficiency and honesty with other people's money, haaa!
Not one penny of my donation went to NO. It all went to rural MS folks.

My group donated Asian Water Buffalo to a shelter in Louisiana.
My Church collect monies and clothes.
My other group is currently down there working with security.
So, all of our efforts went directly to the victims.
I've also been blessed to get connected with a great effort in Spanish Fort, Alabama. As a group within the much larger effort, we're on our 3rd truckload of food and supplies bound for the Prosidee Pantry & Center of the Spanish Fort UM Church. Their warehouse has been filled and emptied several times over. It feels good to get directly to the people with no waste or overhead!
